Just a thought: gingerbread men (and critters) are completely edible. They are kind of "deserty" though. Best to just use them as ornaments, enjoy the aroma during the season. If you want to keep them after that, spray them with hairspray or lacquer. They will keep indefinitely in a dry place...
(Powers that be, please leave this one here for a few days :)
Love ya all! I do love the cold season so things don't perish in the mail :)
Gingerbread men
LOL! Glad you didn't spray ours with laquer or hairspray, 'cause we enjoyed 'em. Thanks!
I am glad, GardenWife. But after they are sprayed, the aroma vanishes! You were right, nutmeg is one of the ingredients :) Along with ginger, cinnamon, ground fennel and ground cumin.
I love gingerbread man cookies! Yummy. I make them every christmas to give as gifts. Now I am going to make some for my kids's classes and of course my niece.
When my DGD was a toddler she loved the Mrs. Fields cookbook of cookies and always had the page open to the gingerbread men. It was so cute, she carried that book with her all the time. On her 3rd birthday we were having her party in the park and I asked my DD to be sure to bring the book with her, as I had a suprise for Paige. I made ginger breadmen and decorated them just like the pictures, and when we set up the tables I placed a couple of the cookies on the page next to the pictures. When Paige saw them she immediately bit the head off of one of them, put it down on the table, and said "yuk!" LOL
*giggling at dguimo's story* Thanks for sharing it :) Definitely not a taste little kids enjoy! Most adults love them, tho :) And the smell is heavenly!
lol dguimo...isnt that the way kids are though.
I love gingerbread men, I will have to see if I can come up with a good recipe, or did you post one lupinelover?
I'll go check on the recipe forum.
No, I didn't post the recipe: I can later tho (gotta go rescue the car in a couple minutes). Trouble is, I never use the same spices or measure the ones I use, so I don't have a "recipe" :)
