Just a quick note to let y'all know Margaret just phoned and they have lost electric and the snow hasn't even started. They do have a fireplace and are burning logs. Hopefully the electric will get back on so they can get the house warmed up before the storm really hits. She said they are predicting possibly 8" of snow. It started snowing here a little bit ago. Everybody stay safe and warm!
Margaret has power outage!
The snow started here at 7:15 this morning, and we have 5.5 inches of lovely snow, so far... and still have electric power! It's supposed to change to ice, sleet and freezing rain later. If it does, we'll all be in a mess around here. They are now saying as many as a million people across the storm area could end up without power, and that it won't get above freezing for 3 more days.
How quickly we are reminded of how vulnerable and dependent we are...
BTW, Margaret mentioned in Vic's post above is known here by the DG name of Louisa and I pray for warmth for her and others without heat or power.

Hey Darius....get on a sled and slide down the mountain to see me ROFLOL.....Seriously, I hope we all keep our electric...so far, so good
Any further news from you guys?? We have resumed power, hoping it stays that way but are prepared for the worst.
I just saw the news and all the photos from up that way, WOW! Did yall take a hard hit. Hang in there and sending warm thoughts (although it is a might chilly here this a.m.)
Good Morning! We have awakened to a lovely wintry scene here in Asheville... much snow and not much ice. We never lost power, although just 10-15 miles away, many else did. A lot of the snow is packed down from the freezing rain that late yesterday followed 5-6" of snow, and the temperature is above freezing already. I won't be able to get out of my driveway and up the hill to the street corner for hours, probably, so it's still stay-at-home time.
Sorry this photo is poor. It was taken through the window which was steamy from the pan of water on the woodstove.
Spoke with vic a little while ago and they lost power late last night. She doesn't think it's going to be reconnected for at least another 48 hours. She and Hank are doing OK - they have heaters and food and were listening to the radio sipping coffee. :-) They have some tree damage which was to be expected but all in all they are doing fine. Happy to hear that you have come through this without loss of power Darius and loved your picture. Only minutes ago I was looking at our visitors too at the bird table - so many of them, including red cardinals, doves, one woodpecker and many different little ones, some of which have taken refuge under the screen porch which is surrounded by lattice. Comforting to know they found a new little safe place. Lisa I don't imagine for one minute you know exactly the meaning of 'chilly'...........lol!!
There's nothing to bring out the birds like some snow! Glad you're all doing okay, bad weather or no. We only got about 1 or 2" last night. Sunday night we're supposed to get down to 4 degrees, though! Brrrrrr!
How in the world do people contend with this hardship and manage to smile about it? I would be so depressed, it would take more than a boat load of pills to lift my head. My DD lives in Pa. and my DS lives in Tacoma, and they just roll right through it, despite having been raised in the sunny South. I am impressed.
