I just received word that my dear friend Samuel N. Norris, who created the hybrid known as Pardancanda norrisii, has died at the age of 81. I am privileged to have known him, if only for a short time, and have letters, seeds, and plants which I will cherish. He was a vital man at 81, still active in many projects, including improved Pardancanda, crosses of tropical and hardy Hibiscus, and work on a seedless PawPaw. He will be missed.
Samuel N. 'Sam' Norris (from local paper)
Samuel N. "Sam" Norris, 81, of 3128 Settles Road, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired from General Electric Co. as a supervisor in the tube department after 26 years and was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross.
Very sad news
I'm sorry to hear of his passing. He certainly left a rich legacy in the botanical world.
John, we share your grief. The gardening world will be a little emptier now, but is much fuller having had him in it.

John I am sorry for your loss of a friend.
Such a beautiful legacy that a gardener such as this man leaves. This is hard for us here to take but I am sure that he is continuing his work through friends like you and others that he shared his knowledge and seeds and plants with. ((((((John))))))
He must have been an amazing man. I wish I could have known him too. I'm sorry for your loss.
Thank you all very much for your kind thoughts and words. John

You have though, the memories of this great man, and the precious gifts he has left as a legacy. Things which you will carry with you forever.
All the best
Wintermoor
