Propagation: Overview of techniques

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

the broken links are not the fault of this website. The only ones that don't work are perennialsonline.com (evidently they have taken their website down) and one link to gardenweb.com - they evidently clean out old threads periodically because I have seen that before. You do a google search on your subject and when you try the link, you see garden web has gotten rid of it.

Hope that helps you.

I'm sorry - there's just not much we can do for broken links to sites outside of DG. If you want to contact the people who posted broken links AND they're still subscribers who can access their post, they might be able to correct it with functioning links.

This is an old thread but a good one and the only way I know how to keep it on my home page is to *bump* it. Maybe others will enjoy reading it again, too.

Went back and cleaned up the broken links; hadn't been to this thread in a couple of years. Whenever you find bad links in my posts please Dmail me so they can be researched and fixed. :)

Thanks...I didn't even think about that. After I bumped it up, THEN I figure out tagging pages! Oh well, lots of good info here anyway :)

Bump! Lots of great info!

Here is how I started perennial seeds with the Deno method. Can be used with all varieties of perennial seeds, including Daylily.

Soak seeds in hand hot water over night. Then cut a kitchen paper towel in half. Fold the half towel twice. Wet it and squeeze excess moisture. You want it moist, not wet.

Place your seeds in the center of the towel, fold one end over the seeds twice. Place this in a zip lock baggie. Zip it closed but leace 1/2" open at one end. Blow it up like a balloon, then quickly zip it close. The air inside will stay if the tracks are correctly lined up. It prevents the towel from sticking to the plastic sides.

Stratify your seeds in the fridge for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks place them in room temp to sprout. Carefully open the towel and check every 3 days. As soon as you see them sprout, plant them in seed container or pot in potting soil. Depth as you would if not used a kitchen towel. Space 1" apart.

Here are sprouted seeds Geranium 'Vision' still in the paper towel just prior to planting up. I used tweezers to hold the seedling.

Gypsi ~ I also added it to my tagged pages under "Propagation". I find that another great way to not lose threads I like.
