Heading South

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ummm, it's Ayieeeeeeeeee Shoe. Lisa thinks you're pushin' her leg* with that Eiiiiiiiieeeeeeee business...Sounds more like Old MacDonald Had a Farm E-I-EEEEEEEE...

*Ed. Note: That's Lisa-talk for "Yankin' my chain".

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

(I knew that. It musta been my keyboard that didn't!)

As for Old MacDonald...you just wait! You ain't heard "Old MacDonalds Farm-Revisited" yet!

Please tell me this is the REAL Kimberly/GW...LISA, turn aloose of that woman, let her come up for air!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

I'll come visit you in jail. Snicker.

(Zone 5a)

GW I wish that I could be there with you. I haven't been to New Orleans since I was nine and it would be a treat to see how much it has changed. Have fun and tell GH I said not to eat too many taters lol.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Windsurffer, Lisa doesn't live anywhere near Nawlins. That's just where the plane drops them off, and then they have to drive for hours to get down to Thibodaux.

Howie, I just bet Lisa knows someone who has some scuppernong wine stashed away, and maybe a little mayhaw juice fermented. No potatoes in them, but they wash away the nasty taste of that old rice based cajun food. If you drink enough.

Oooh, Lisa, I would give a victory nickel to see you wheeling and dealing on those boat docks. Stay close to Howie, you know those are sometimes lean and hungry men.

Cold on the bayou: I have been to French Settlement when there was so much ice on the duck blind, we had to chop our way in. Pecan Island can seem like Iceland some winters. And old Hebert don't provide no heating systems in them houseboats he rents to hunters. The "necessary room" is on the back porch, with a thin cloth curtain for walls and the back wall flapping over the water. One season, the curtains were too frozen stiff to flap, and they just hung there at half mast.

(Zone 5a)

Ok Amee, but that's close enough for me lol.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Windy, you got the right idea. Stay in NO, let them join you, and have the best of all worlds. I once stole some sage seeds in NO, so I am not too sure I can make the party. Do eat turtle soup for me. Heavy on the sherry, side of corn bread.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Well Aimee Thibodaux is really only an hour away from NO and I love rice so I am making do jest fine. I can even almost understand what they are saying now. We are having a great time and Jesse and Lisa are going to take us on a tour of the bayou Friday. I imagine that is when they will feed us to the gators. But hey they have been real nice up to this point so at least I will die happy and with a full belly after Thanksgiving day. We went and picked up the Turducken yesterday. Were going to have a feast.

(Zone 5a)

Amiee I would love to be NO in Feb, boy what a time I would have before lint....then would come the confession lol.

Howie I am so glad that you and Kim are enjoying yourselves sure wish I was there with you. I hope you'll be posting some pictures.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe we can have a roundup in NO someday! Yes, I would like that trip, but I don't do Lent so it could be a real long spring. And spring in the Crescent City, if it's not too humid, is my cup of tea. The gardens are so lush, the river so busy. I could spend a year in Audubon Park, just soaking up horticulture and sounds.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't think I could stand Louisiana in the spring or summer, LOL! This weather's been great -- they say it's cold, but I think 60 degrees with low humidity feels GREAT! ;)

Sunday night was good eats -- a crab boil and fried seafood. Here's the pot...

And here is dinner...

Lisa was soooo tempted, Shoe. But she didn't eat any of 'em raw. (I think I would have lost my lunch if I'd tried).

Doesn't she have gorgeous blue eyes?

Lisa's sinuses have been so bad, but she's finally been able to clear them out a little. Shoe, this is for you:

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow look at all the great food. Kim and Howie you will never want to go home. Especially now sense it's cold and snowing in OH.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Howie's had such a good time with Sally. She's a sweetie, and really polite. And imaginitive! She got a kick out of him putting her tiara on his head...It just kind of mushroomed.

Have great mercy 'pon my soul!!!! Sha-zaaaaaaaammmm!!!
Waaaahhhh...I'm missing out! Tsk tsk tsk and all!!

I want some of dat! Heck, I don't even know how to eat a crab but I'd just start at the head and work my way back!
sheesh!...Just look at that food! Look at that smile! I'm hurting here folks!
But, lookee here, tonite I had fried eeeerrrrsters, fried shrimp, and got some collard greens w/side meat cooking in the big pot! Nyah nyah!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This is a bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway. Looks like a really abrupt roller coaster, doesn't it? ;)

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Has Howie been riding the roller coaster too much???

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

That's great pictures! I wish I could be there and join the FUN!!!! Oh I love to eat raw oysters.. Oh you got a good look crab out there... make crab meat cake.. pies.. also crab stew.. yummy!!!!!

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Did I read right... Howie said he loves rice now? Poor, poor Howie. You had him on the docks during an illegal seafood transaction, intimidating a cashier, and now he looks better in a tiara than most of us! Oh my Lisa, what did you do to these folks from Ohio??? LOLOL

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

OH they need to come back here to LA for Mardi Gras.. so FUN!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

What did I read, the humidity in South Louisiana is low?? The Gods of the Atmosphere have indeed looked favorably upon this adventure. No, I wouldn't eat the oysters raw any more. I do love a big plate of the little goodies, but I think too many undesirable organisms now inhabit the water to take a chance, even with fresh lemon juice. I'm with Shoe, this is torture, but so is your menu, Shoe, I want to combine both tables and stay forever.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, we're not the Mardi Gras type, I don't think. I think people would flee in terror if I tried to earn any beads...Anyway, we don't like crowds, LOL! This is more our speed, just country and relaxing. :) We are looking forward to going to the French Quarter and getting pictures of those beautiful old buildings there. And the swamps beckon...Can't wait for that, either. It's going too fast, though!

This picture is of my favorite spot here, a rope hammock chair overlooking a big tree and Lisa's garden. What a wonderful spot that's been to sit and read...

This is such a lovely shot! Makes me want to tour the grounds.

(Zone 5a)

Lol Howie, you look so good to..hee,hee.
I love crab, Shoe can have all the orysters and I'll eat all the crab, shrimp and lobster that Lisa can muster.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH! I just went back and saw Howie "all dressed up"! (I guess I missed it cuz I posted nearly at the same time.)
Howie! You're bee-yootiful! I believe you're ready for downtown N-Orleans!

GW, so glad you and Howie are having a good time. Your pictures are great (especially the one of Howie in his tiara, LOL) and Lisa's house is lovely -- and YES, she does have beautiful eyes!

BTW -- just to foment thought -- have you seen Stellapathic's beagle pups yet? Hmmmmm??? http://davesgarden.com/t/367894/

Love you!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, we sure did...She cruelly sent us an e-mail with a link to even more pictures. They're actually right here in Ohio, over near Dayton. We're not in the puppy market, LOL!

We had to pry that tiara off of Howie. He was singing show tunes by morning.

Oooooh, that WAS cruel! I know you're not in the market for beaglettes at the moment, but still...

Hope Howie forgives you for prying that tiara off his head!

Cape May Court House, NJ(Zone 7a)

YOU GUY'S ARE TOO MUCH!!!!! I MUST SAY I JUST HAD THE BEST LAUGH SINCE MY HOUSE BURNT TO THE GROUND!!!! hehehehehehe THANK'S FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT!!!!

OH YEA HOWIE, THE TIARA LOOK'S GREAT!!!!!!

sue

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I think Jesse is jealous he wants a tiara too. I better keep it low key from hear on out. Shoe you are missing the Thanksgiving of the century. Turducken, deep fried Turkey, pecan pie, cheese cake and all kinds of goodys.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Gardener Dave's sightseeing pictures are in the Paper People forum: http://davesgarden.com/t/368060/

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow...what a spread! A fried turkey AND a Turducken! Ya'll must be in heaven!
Good pics of Flat Dave too! Hope he stays away from the turkey fryer tho!
Happy Thanksgiving ya'll! http://davesgarden.com/t/368099/

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

This is too good ;-)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I missss youuuu, Lisa & family!!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

This should bring back some memories, eh?

Love Howie in the tiara!!! Pic of the week! (or year!)

GW and Howie ... thank you for sharing your trip with us new DG'ers. It brought tears to my eyes, though, to realize how things have changed in the past 3 years. Lisa, if you're reading this ... God bless you, and I hope you are happy. ... Elaine
