Take a look...
What is my computer doing? I'm seeing a picture of a body builder! Only when I double click does it take me to Sweet Gum, Red Gum (Liquidambar styraciflua)

Am I the only one seeing this?!!! Who else is getting this "other view" instead of the Sweet Gum, Red Gum....?
PDB Forum Picture - Corrupted!!!
LOL So someone else DID notice???
Badseed - How could you miss it???
yeah and all the enteries there have been altered too.
Thanks Kimberley. I couldn't get the image to paste.
Just another inconsiderate person trying to put garbage into our happy community. I think I cleaned everything up, but please let me know if I missed anything.
dave
I saw the picture but didn't have the error message, I thought someone was having fun.
Well, at least the picture wasn't as bad as it could have been. Quick save, Dave - thank you!
So Jack LaLane is still alive? Wow...
but he needs to get outside to the garden, eh?
wow shoe, haven't heard that name in years!!
yep Jack LaLane is still alive. somewhere.
tiG, he's still going strong at 80-plus years old! http://www.jacklalanne.com/
I find it a little uncomfortable that anyone can go in and alter information and add wrong info. I suppose there's nothing that can be done about that though, since we still want people with the right info to post.
At least you heard of him tiG :~) Some people may not know who Jack LaLane is or why he was famous! BOY! If he still looks like that....exercise really does a body good!!!
Thanks Dave for fixin' the PDB images! It's past Halloween, but someone is still playin' pranks!!
Wow, cool link about Jack. I'd seen him, but never knew much about him. This is cool: http://www.jacklalanne.com/biograph.html
i was a wee babe when he was on tv every morning and no one around me exercised, but maybe my mom just liked looking at him??? lol!
Well, we know our weaknesses... the usual weaknesses when you dare to trust people. It's an unavoidable hazard, but the benefits of trust far outweigh it. One of the great things about Dave's is that you can trace a PDB poster's movements on the PDB home page and correct the damage. If we all want the PDB to work, I think we've all got to do a bit of homeland watch here. Checking the new entries to the PDB is a good thing to be doing anyway... education is an ongoing affair, after all!
I agree, WZ. A long time ago, (when the PDB had about 100 entries), Dave and I had a discussion about whether it should be as open as it is, or if there should be a screening/selection process for information, photos and entries.
Dave's preference won out (he is the site's owner after all :) and in retrospect, it has been the absolutely correct and best decision. There's no bottleneck of unsubmitted entries; and no bias toward a particular region's (or country's) plants. A lot of people have shared their knowledge and images because it is so easy, and there's no fear of having your submission rejected by a panel of experts.
But that does mean that we need to be diligent - all of us. A while back, Mark suggested that we have many people revieiwng the PDB entries. Several of you have willingly volunteered for this task (A BIG THANK YOU!!!) and we can always use more!
Now that Dave has added a "report an error" button, I hope EVERY member will take the time to let us know when something doesn't seem right - whether it's Jack LaLane making a guest appearance, or something more subtle and/or subjective :) Just make sure you're on the page where you see the error (not the PDB Home page) and hit that link...
Yes, Go_Vols. I try to make a point of visiting new entries when I see them on the PDB homepage. I catch a few errors, but I also find some fascinating information... so it's a win-win situation. Good point about not posting errors from the PDB mainpage.
Another error I have made "posting errors" is to accidently hit the "Report An Error" button instead of send. I know that sounds stupid, but I have to scroll down on my screen to find the Send button, and sometimes I just reach over and hit "Report An Error" instead. Of course, that means the error report I had typed up never got sent. Sometimes I think I've sent a message, but I haven't.
What always bothered me about Jack Lalane was that his wife of equal age and fitness never gets even a little recognition. She is always hovering in the backgorund making him his blender drinks! I have seen stories about him twice now in the past year and there she is still, ever loyal and faithful, standing off to the side waiting for him to need her.
Wow...that felt good to get that off my chest after all these years......LOL
Oh, Kell... you made me laugh out loud!
