carbon monoxide detectors

A timely warning. A young couple in town had a gift certificate to a local hardware store and bought a detector-just by chance-they also put it up that afternoon-it saved their lives that night. They had just move into their house. Our new ones went up yesterday. A few $$ to protect loved ones.

Wow! Thank you so much for this post. We got two carbon monoxide detectors from Wal-Mart and they were very inexpensive, especially when you consider that they save lives.

I just want to add that with some of the detectors, their alarm is so ear-piercing that it is actually painful -- so for anyone reading this who buys a detector, cover your ears when you do the battery test!

We also have one,
I bought one the day after our pellet stove got fire, I was so lucky to hear the smoke detector, I was in the barn.
I used my fire instinguisher on it and the naxt day I bought a new one and also a carbon monoxide detector.

Yes they can really save lives, but it only happens when a gas appliance is not checked annually and also you need a wall vent to allow certain gases to escape. Here in Britain we are starting to get very strict and a landlord whether Social houses or private houses must check these appliances each year. It still amazes me to find people with 32 inch TV annd VCR/DVD players etc but looking at their gas fire you know it has not been serviced in years. What price lives?
