Timely advice!

Crossville, TN

This was sent to me by a DG'er:

I learned a lesson I'd like to pass on to you. You may know this already--but the highway patrolman told me that you should NEVER drive in the rain with your cruise control on. He said if you did and hydroplaned (which I did) that when your tires were off the road your car would accelerate to a high rate of speed (which it did). You don't have much, if any control when you hydroplane, but you are totally in the hands of God when the car accelerates. I took off like I was in an airplane. I'm so thankful I made it through that ordeal. Please pass the word around about not using cruise control when the pavement is wet or icy. The highway patrolman said this should be on the sun-visor with the warning about air-bags.

The only person I've found out who knew this (besides the patrolman) was a man who had a similar accident and totaled his car. This has made me wonder if this is not why so many of our young people are dying in accidents.

I rarely use cruise control, but asked DH(he loves cruise control) if he used it driving in rain or on ice and he said "NO, I want to be in control, I want to be able to slow down if necessary." He said lots of people don't know not to use cc in the rain.
Forgot to add, thanks Jo for posting this.

Thanks, Jo! I didn't know that and doubt that Kenny does, either. Thanks again! :)!

That's an excellent piece of advice; it makes perfect sense when you think about it. I'd never considered that before!

I hadn't thought about it, either, and it DOES make sense. Thank you so much for posting this, Roadrunner, and am praying for your friend to recover from the shock and aches and pains of a near-accident.

Thank you, I am going to pass this on.

Great advise, thanks!

I never use it! I just don't feel right not "driving" if I'm behind the wheel and the car is in motion. I did use it in a former car when I was on the road a lot, and certainly didn't know this. Only Divine Providence saved my hide.

great advice-i had no idea.
**i think kids are getting in more accidents because they are not being trained right-it cost over 300.00 here for a kid to go through all the steps of drivers ed. My 18yr old missed the DAY of parking practice-when he went to make it up the teacher said: "oh you drive good enough" and passed him without ever teaching him.
I say go back to the old way and TEACH the kids to drive. I teach the boys myself before they ever think about taking it-just like my parents did. My dad made me pass on solid sheets of ice at 70mph in a 225 buick(boat)"thats why they give you all them horses under the hood"!-he was crazy! but i learned-i can pass you and shake your hand-i can get real real close!lol
I learned to parked between moms car and the lawnmower-dad made me change tires too!
**glad they had gotten rid of that mannual stick car before my turn-cuz my sis sure looked funny jerking n jerking down the road!

do you have to pay in your state???
