I tried to change my member page photo and the new caption is there, but not the photo. Help!
New photo not displayed
I see a picture under the Korean War Vet. caption.
Kathy, refresh ur browser. i see ur Dad in the photo like u mentioned.
Thanks. I had to close out of DG completely before it finally came up right! Why the extra-long delay? But at least it worked.
Lupine, your computer keeps a copy of the pages you've visited recently in it's short-term memory (temporary internet files folder ~ what some people call "cache") so they're easier and faster to load ~ it can call it up the page from right there in it's own brain instead of asking for and getting it over the phone lines again. So unless you clear that out, it'll still bring up the older version of the page. Sometimes you can just hit "refresh" and that will refresh the page to the most recent version by asking Dave's server for it over the phone lines again and re-loading it from there.
Now, why can others see it and not you? Because they didn't have a previous version of the page in it. Their cache was clear when the first viewed your page today.
I hope that helps! :)!
Thanks, Wingnut, learned something. (And I thought I knew it all :~))
Linda... it has been a common practice of mine to clear; memory cache, disk cache, history and location bar, then scan and defrag each night i finished using my 'puter. that way the following day, it will be smooth sailing browsing online. i do this cause i do surf a lot when i am online. it does help a lot and less frustration.
You're welcome, Ulrich! :)!! I thought I knew it all too, 'til I got a computer and hooked it up to the internet. Figgered out right quick just how much I don't know ~ oodles and oodles and lots and lots. *Very big grin!*
Yes, MaVie, that's an excellent practice! Keeps your 'puter running smooth and quick.
MaVie, defragging every day may be kinda rough on the hard drive and not necessary that often. This might be a good question for the 'Computer Talk' forum however.
well Max, i learned that in school when i took some classes yrs ago. so far it has been a practice i follow the past 10 yrs. never had any problem. except smooth sailing as i surf online. besides, how could it be hard on the hard drive, since what is being done is similar to getting a clean sheet of paper each time u use the typewriter. it will be far harder for the hard drive to function when all the mess has cluttered the computer memory. i have known of so many computer users getting frustrated for not being able to
use their pc at top speed or not work at all. most of tech problems point to defragging the pc. am no expert but do observe a lot on previous reading not only on this site
but also on line. correct me if i am wrong. i merely follow what works for me.
MaVie, I IMPLIED that I don't really know for positively certain absolutely sure and it MAY be so. That's why I said it might be a good question for the 'Computer Talk' forum.
maybe this url can shed some info on the subject ... http://www.howstuffworks.com/question548.htm
And it WAS, Ulrich! Thanks for leading me to ask that. :)
Cool url, MaVie! I really had no idea what the defrag did except clean up the hard drive ~ had no idea how, so that url was very helpful! Thanks. :)
Linda, if u followed all the links on that page u will be more enlightened :)!
Yep, I've got it bookmarked for digging later as I've not much time this morning. I started going off on other links, like how the hard drive actually works and such ~ interesting!! My computer nerd BIL told me about the defrag and such to keep things running smooth, but I never really knew WHY. Knowing why helps me remember, so that site is so helpful to me! THanks again, MaVie!
glad to share Linda :)!!!
