I have two really big oleanders in my pumphouse right now. My questions are this, can I take cuttings of this, will it overwinter like a Brug? It has huge seedpods on it, but they don't seem to be drying out on the plant, what do I do with those, 1st year for these.
Tropicals: Oleander questions
Oleander roots fairly easy. Take tip cuttings and put in sand or vemiculite.
Thanks Hummer! What about the seed pods? Will they come true from seeds? When do I harvest those?
TLynn, I love oleanders. Just in case you don't know this, they are toxic. Please be careful if you have critters and wash your hands after taking cuttings. (sorry if you knew this already)
Thanks, knew it, there are a lot of things that are poisonous that we grow everyday a don't think about. So I guess it is good to remind people.
TLynn, make sure you take lots of cuttings. Some oleander are tougher to root than others. I took a bunch of cuttings from a double pink and white an only 1 took. On the other hand we picked up cuttings from bushes that had been pruned by the city and every one of those took...
Hormone or no?
We didn't but it sure wouldn't hurt
One more Question then, seedpods? You can ignore the e-mail since you are being so nice to answer here. They are huge, and I don't think they are growing any more, they are at least 6" long. How can I tell when they are ripe?
The seed pods on mine have finally started to turn brown. Took forever. :-)
I don't know if they come true or not, my first time too.
Glad to know that they will finally ripen!! Mine are taking forever to ripen also.
Shoot I knew I forgot to do something, I was going to go pick one of those. Ashley's birthday has me in a tizzy, it doesn't help that I can't seem to get away from the computer.
Tracey, go bake that cake!!! And give Ashley a big birthday hug from me and Lauren.
Bake what is that? I ordered one with horses on it, I will take a picture. I will give her a big hug and a swat on the rear.
Just Checking!
