Free credit report ???

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Does anyone know a site where you can actually get a FREE credit report? Have not been turned down for credit in the past 60 days and am not interested in a 30 day free trial of anything. grrrr..going cross-eyed trying to find a truely free site.

I have heard Freecreditreport.com advertised on the radio. I can make no claims about their legitimacy, but I have heard talk radio hosts refer people to that site for a free credit report. http://www.freecreditreport.com/lt/v15/default.asp

Here are hits from Google consisting of government URL's only: http://www.google.com/unclesam?sourceid=navclient&q=%22free+credit+report%22

It sounds like you can send a letter requesting a free credit report by stating that you suspect you may be a victim of identity fraud. I don't know if that's the case with you, but I thought I'd mention it.

Nothing is free.

In exchange for your credit information, you will provide the credit firm with additional information about yourself (phone, address confirmaton, how many in your household, etc).

The credit report providor will then turn around and sell this information, either in bulk or individually, to all interested parties.

That is, after all, how credit reporting companies make a living..., selling aggregated or segregated data.

Is it legal? Yes. Is it ethical ? You decide.

When I want information about myself, I am happy to pay for it, as this way I do not have to divulge any additional information to Big Brother ;~)

Happy holiday shopping.

Well, that goes without saying. Information's a valuable commodity. How do you think Michigan Bulb made its money? It certainly wasn't plant sales!

GardenWife ~~~

GREAT collection of links about credit information. Most of us are so ignorant about our basic rights in this area. Thank you.

GW...thanks for the link. I too did a Google search before posting here. Could not find a truely free site without fudging on the truth..and it seems that Florida is not a state where you are entitled to 1 free report a year. Oh well.

Well, that sure stinks! I think that should be something allowed at the Federal level. Identity fraud and such is not just a state-to-state issue, you know?
