red vetchling for PDB? Can anyone write French?

San Francisco, CA

I found this wonderful photo of red vetchling on line, but and I want to put it in the data base, but the website is French, I think. I can't speak any French to email and ask for permission. I really love this flower and I wish I could get some seed to grow it. It is a weed, so it may not be allowed in California. You must see how pretty this photo is to believe it.

Strange the link I put in is not working now, but I translated and it said, it will allow it if it is not a conflict of interest or something. It did not translate well. Maybe I can find another photo of it somewhere?

bug_girl, you can copy the text (150 words a time) into Babelfish at Alta Vista, and it will translate (at least an approximation) for you. http://babel.altavista.com/

I think you can also have it translate the entire web page, although I usually have a paragraph or two that I simply copy and paste into there.

The information is in English, but when I try to get in touch with the site owner, I find it is French, so they may ignore an English email. Howver, it does not say copywrite or can not use without premission. Does this mean it is free for the taking? I don't know where else to get a photo of red vetchling.

if their website is in English, they can probably read an email. You should never snatch a picture unless it clearly says it's free for the taking.

There's a standard copyright notice at the bottom of the page, so I would assume the photo is copyright-protected.

I have saved the photo for my personal enjoyment, but it would be nice to have it in the database, well I can try to write to them, it not a personal site or a site that sells anything. It is part scientific research. If you go there, click on the thumb nail to see it large. I did not see any copy write, but I don't want to look for. I was thinking the copy write on a photo is encoded in the photo.

Try this photo site, yes this is copy write, but if someone wants to see how it looks, since the other link stopped working.

I was going to see about buying the photo, and it turns out the site is also French.

Problem, I don't think we have any of them in the US, so we can not bring them in, it could go wild. Maybe if I ever go to France I can take a photo. I like to take my own photos, no muss, no fuss.

This is a weed, properly know as Lathyrus cicera, also known as L. aegaeus.

Yes, that is correct, but did you look at the photo, it is really fantasic. I had this idea, that we should put weeds in data base, because it would help us to id and destroy, but in this case, I think it deserves to be flower status.

I would like to see a separate searchable section for weeds, so when someone has a weed, they can get tips, on destruction.

My worse problem is bind weed, but someone sent me a photo of a beautiful pink flower, wild morning glory or something like that.

We actually do have weeds listed, and we make it easy to get to it through the advanced search.

Go to the PDB and do an advanced search, and in the "Other Details" area, click on "May be invasive...".

When you submit the page (and maybe wait for a while) it will list the invasive plants in our database. It looks like there are currently 768 weeds in the database.

Dear Dave, I was not able to use the link, and could not get at the weed section, but when I limied the search to annuals, that are invasive, I did get six plants. Now I am inspired to upload a few weeds from around here, if that is ok? Oxalis has a yellow flowers, looks like a pretty clover, and lawn daisy.

Yes, I really really want to grow that red flower, it looks like my species sweet pea, but the color is much richer and nicer.
