I have some canna seeds to start for next year's crop. Can someone tell me the best time to start them so I'll have blooms next summer? Thanks so much.

Cannas: Best time to start seeds?
Shirley, They go from seed to bloom in about 4 months for the shorter varieties, a bit longer for the taller ones. Hope this helps!
Thanks so much. I've heard of people starting them now, but thought they would get really leggy. I'll wait until Feb. or March. You have been a big help.
Good luck with them :) Canna seeds are generally pretty easy to germinate but I'm a serial overwaterer so I lost quite a few last year to damp off disease. Just be careful not to keep them too wet when you start them and I think you'll do fine.
Thanks a bunch. Appreciate the help.
Soak the seeds? Nick the seeds? I didn't realize that they bloomed so quickly from seed. I thought it was two years seed to bloom - I almost tossed mine. Thanks for the help.
Mine that fall to the ground each season will often re-seed the same year, they are really fast to bloom also..I never soak or nick any of the seeds that most here seem too..Never saw the need for it..If you have a good place outside, let them chill for the winter and start naturally..They will be fine..
