Where does your state rank http://moneycentral.msn.com/articles/insure/basics/6052.asp?Printer as being healthy. My state is 26th because of the smog and acid rain coming from Ohio and Kentucky. But our BIG concern is the Shippingport Power Plant (atomic). The first, and of course oldest in the nation. If this pops, there will be no evacuation, just a BIG blast.
How About Your State?
My home state..North Dakota...is ranked 13, but the state I live in now..Texas...is ranked 36. Hmmmm, so the question is, should I move back north to freeze to death or stay here in the south and let the pollution, etc. take care of it for me.
hmmm, no big shocker there..last on list. Louisiana is always the worst for everything, sometimes we let Mississippi beat us. Not to often though.
29th here!
44th? Geez, I need to move away from here, just barely healthier than the swamps of La.
36th here in Georgia!!
Goodness! I left Virginia (15th) for Florida (46th), then improved by coming to Arizona (35th). I'll bet if you took all the people that came to AZ "for their health", and sent them back to Minnesota, and their previous homes, We'd be number ONE! You don't hear many people say "I can hardly wait to retire and move to Minnesota!" LOL Jo
Wow, I knew NC was bad... esp. since I read recently that the Smokey Mountain National Park has a very high level of air pollution. (Must be all those tourists' automobiles!) We have slipped one notch each year for the three they showed... now 34, surrounded by GA, SC and TN... all worse. Only Virginia, on our northern border, is better. Maybe I should move to the Virginia mountains!
49th in Mississsippi
Wow! #2 here. I guess I'll battle the cold and snow another year.
Washington is 12th....they must consider that the constant rain cleans everything.....
24th in Ohio. Sorry we are putting pollutants in Pa. I DIDN"T DO IT!!
NY is 33rd and Fl ia 46th BUT the politicians in both states say things are getting better so why worry?
kikisdad, you may be 33rd, but I imagine where you are it is beautiful with clear skies, and mountains turning colors right now. Florida is probably 46th all over. Oops, no offense down there. I say this having lived there, Each time I go back something is not the same, and I miss the way it was (70's).
Right Golddog. Right NOW it is raining pretty fiercely here in the southern tier of NY but typically Summers are refreshing and the fall season is a litany of gorgeous colors. It must be the same where You are as we live within 5 miles of the PA border.
Since retiring (3 yrs. ago) DW and I have wintered in Florida. It certainly beats the snow and cold of the Northeast during the winter season! I do think that those who have never experienced the hush of the woods after a 12 inch snowfall or enjoyed the comfy solitude of a wood stove during a winter blizzard when you know no one else is stirring about are missing a huge chunk of life though.
5 miles from the border? Near Clearfield or Dubois? Maybe Milford? I am 25 miles NW of Pittsburgh at the top of the Ohio. Went to a F1 race years ago at Watkins Glen. Nasty weather the whole weekend. They raced anyhow. On wet tires.
Maryland ranks 28th on the list of healthy states. That's two BELOW Pennsylvania, Golddog!
Florida sure is popular to be so unhealthy. Guess I will just live with it.
22nd here. It's probably all the auto accidents. Luckily I only have to go 3 miles to work.
The beautiful state of Tennessee is #44, but I couldn't help but notice that all the northern states had good ratings and the southern states had bad ratings.
One of two things here: Either the statistics were influenced by yankee sympathizers ..... or ......
.... the winters have something to do with it, like maybe freezing out bugs and germs, etc. I have always said that part of our problem with allergies and sickness here is due to the fact that we don't have hard enough winters. The flu bugs, germs and all that just have a very short hibernation and then boom, they come back bigger and better than before. Sigh.
Like I always told my kids: You have to take the bad with the good.
