Since you got the song going in my head, I thought I'd share the lyrics with you:

Of all the saddest words
That I have ever heard
The saddest is the story
Told me by a bird

He had spent about and hour
Chatting with a flower
and here ís the tale the flower told

I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and all I do is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me

Who put me in this bed?
I'll bet his face is red
I call him down with every teardrop that I shed

If I only had him here
I'd take him by the ear
And make him share my misery

I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch
and all I do is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away
(Feee-you!)
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me

My nerves begin to crack
Each time I see a track
Made by a kitty with a stripe right down his back

If he ever stopped by me,
I think I'd rather be
A dead petunia, wouldn't you?

Ooooh he ís a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch
He ís a lonely little petunia in an onion patch
And all he does is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away.
(Feee-you!)
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me...

Naw, I'm sure it was the Beatles, in their pre-USA invasion period!

(Seriously, some site indicated it was "The Happy Gang" - does that ring a bell with anyone? Would anyone admit if it did???)

'The Happy Gang' was a singing group of 3; performed by 2 guys and a gal named Nicky, Mr. P, and Spatz. They sang silly little childrens songs I believe.

ROFLOL! For years as a kid I thought my Dad made this one up to torment us kids! With 5 kids someone was bound to complain when we moved to a new area (we moved a LOT!) That all the kids in the new location were ugly, stupid, stuck up or had cooties. That is when Dad would serenade us with this song until we begged him to stop and promised we would quit gripping and go make new friends.

Hey Go_Vols! Guess what song I managed to download off the net :~) Sung by Arthur Godfrey...shall I e-mail you the file?

aaaackkkk! Noooooo...I went to SLEEP with that song in my head ;0) hehehehe

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

I remember that song..yikes! They used to sing it on "Captain Kangaroo". They had a little cartoon of a petunia standing in an onion patch and she would cry..eeek, hope I am not the only one who remembers the Captain...

Lisa, you're not the only one. I grew up with the Captain and Mr. Greenjeans. And those silly ping pong balls....argh! Now I have a mental image to go with the song :)

Who could ever forget Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans? Remember them well, and just too bad they don't have shows like that anymore for the young ones today.
How about 'Howdy Doodie'? Remember that one?
