Calla Lilies: seed pod - what do I do?

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

I bought the most lovely calla lily at Wal Mart of all places - it started as white, deepened to a pinkish champagne color and ended up with a pod, looks like a scrunched up bunch of grapes. I just brought my pot in since it's going to freeze tonight. The leaves are starting to yellow and droop, so I will start drying out the pot for the winter - I think that is the right thing to do, decrease water and sort of encourage it to go dormant?

What do I do with these seeds? Do I wait for them to dry on the plant? Can I separate them now?

Help!

hi Sbarr. let them dry on the big cluster. then what you do is tear off a section, which might look like a shriveled up grape (would that be a raisin - lol) then work it thru your thumb and index finger, you should get about 10 seeds from each section. the matter around the seeds is gooshy and squeeshy and has a distinct odor to it.

I have left my cluster on the plant and then harvested the seeds in the spring when I found it. still gooshy and squeeshy..I dont think they dry out completely.
last year, I harvested seeds in the spring, and they all were ready for planting, they had the starts of germination going on....

Mine are in the ground by the way, and they come back no problem...

I harvested seeds of this calla "green goddes"

The plant has gone very yellow, is that expected? Should I let it dry up and go into dormancy?

wow, I lucked out - I started getting nervous when the leaves turned so yellow so quickly - and on a hunch, I dug up the plants - turns out the pot was too damp and they were starting to rot - I was able to cut away everything and have salvages the bulbs. Definitely optimistic that they'll look good next year.

Pebble, thanks for the info on the calla seeds. I have several bulbs and tried to harvest the seeds last year, but I didn't know that they were inside the grapey part. I looked at your trade list and I see that you have some mixed ones to trade. I'd sure like to have some, if there's anything on my list that you would like. Thanks. Rose
