Nice thing to have happen!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

What a nice thing that just happened to me..I got a phone call from Mark.~ Ok, so I said "Mark who" when he said "this is Mark" ~I sent him something in the mail, never expecting to actually hear him say "Thank you" in person, but he called me. How nice :-) I wondered what he sounded like ..grin. At first I thought it was a cajun with a bad cold...LOL!!! Just kidding Mark, you caught me off gaurd..thanks for the phone call, that was very sweet. Lisa

Are you talking about the Mark that has an irish accent? :) He phoned me once and it was a real pleasure chatting with him.

Mark, I love bats, you'll never hear anything negative about them from me!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, I hear they are not much appreciated in the flying insect world. In fact all the Buzzzz is that they are glutinous and eat way too much At least that is what the mosquitos are saying! ;~)

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

mark, your bat just looks sooo cuddley.....ohhh to have a couple three of them flying around in my back yard, maybe occasionally sneaking into the house to torment the cat...what a nice scene that would be!

Mark, you do such good work with bats, and I suppose you're not much appreciated? Or are you? Well, I appreciate being educated by you on these fellas....

I did think of you when I received a letter with the stamp on it....

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Those stamps are so cool! They'd be fun to use on Fall/Halloween correspondence, especially with a black envelope! :) Mark, are bats as soft as they look? I've never had the privilege of holding one.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

well to the insects first - bats eat up to 3500 a night which is all of us here on DG eating a meal every 15 minutes while we are awake.

are they soft? they have the softest fur of any animal. some of the smaller bats have fur that almosts feels like velvet. they also very rarely bite when they are in the hand and they very qickly go to sleep because of the warmth and .... when they are contented like the bat I posted they purrrrr!! BTW this bat is Europes second largest bat Leisler's bat.

Mark, we were talking of bat houses on the phone..if I build it, will that invite them? We have some huge oak trees here that would seem to serve as 'ready made homes for bats'. Would homemade bat houses really increase my chances?

if there are good natural roost sites like in hollow trees bats wont come to a man made box but it all depends on the species.

I mailed a load of info on bat boxes to someone on here to act as supplier of info. maybe someone can remember where the thread started.
