Hey Mark and philomel - bat stamps!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I thought of you two yesterday when I saw these new bat stamps in my Post Office yesterday (mailing several boxes o'plants, of course)

Here's a link that shows all four in the series, in case you haven't seen them: http://www.usps.com/news/2002/philatelic/sr02_050.htm

Enjoy :)

I got an envelope with a bat stamp on it, and was just thinking about who I should send it too.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I'm neutral on bats - I do have some qualms about encountering any around my home, considering they are a known rabies carrier. But I also know that they do good things for our environment, and it's cool when you see them flying at sunset (from a safe distance, of course.) DD and I thought the stamps were pretty cool ;o) But then we also like watching the blue-tailed lizard that hangs out around my GH...

Have you noticed how many US stamps are wildlife/gardening related? When I started thinking about it, gardeners and nature lovers have had some nice selections in stamps this past year...

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Many stamps here have plants or animals in them. Especially birds are very popular in Finnish stamps. We have had very few with people in them (which, I think, is great ☼).
They just published 2 new stamps today, about Lapland ( http://www.pmk.posti.fi/pmk/kuvat/merkit_isot/iso3260.jpg ) and a Juniper ( http://www.pmk.posti.fi/pmk/kuvat/merkit_isot/iso3259.jpg ).

This year they also have pretty Christmas stamps. In some years they have been awful. http://www.pmk.posti.fi/merkit2002/kuvat/joulukoll1.jpg

Evert, those are beautiful - it looks like your stamps have much more detail and color than many of ours...

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

they are already in the post to me.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

stamps from Belize where my mum is from always have wildlife on them.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Evert, they are cool, I especially like this one:
Pääsiäinen: noita-akka (is she a witch lying on her broom?)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

:)

Yes, it is an Easter Witch.

Thanks for posting this g_v. Your link's great - so much info!

Your Finnish stamps are really good Evert.
I rarely seem to like our christmas ones, just occasionally.
I like the Lapland one - very colourful - and the Juniper too. Yes, and the witch pebble LOL - is that a hallowe'en one Evert?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I like ours too. ;)
No, it is an Easter Witch as I said earlier. Too bad we don't celebrate Halloween here. I like the jack o'lanterns. On easter, at Palmusunnuntai (Palm Sunday) -morning, some small kids wear funny clothes to look like withces and go asking for candies like kids there on Halloween. :) I used to, as well... heeh.

LOL your reply wasn't there when i wrote my question ;)
Never heard of witches associated with easter - must come from an earlier tradition

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

ahh but witches are an Easter thing. The cute Easter rabbit is actually a hare which is one of the forms that a witch takes so as not to be seen. Back in the pagan days the celebration was for the goddess of spring Ostera. This coincides with the first Sunday after the first full moon of the vernal equinox.
