The Underwear Generation Gap

Now maybe I have worked too many hours at my job or all of us ladies were bored, but the subject of underwear - thongs in particular - came up. The ladies in their 20's and 30's said they wear thongs and feel completely comfortable wearing them. The ladies in their 40's and 50's exchanged a look among themselves thinking "Who wants to deliberately wear a wedgie". Well one of the ladies decided to try one and felt uncomfortable with it - I haven't tried yet. Is there a generation gap when it comes to undies?

I'm 37 and it sounds awful, but my sister is 35 and wouldn't wear underwear at all if she could get away with it. :) Thongs don't bother her a bit.

I could care less about panty lines. I'M MARRIED. He knows I wear underwear. What's the big deal? :)

My teenage daughters wear those thongs. I can't imagine wearing something like that. They call my underwear 'granny panties'. LOL

cotton Grannie Panties for me. The thong (flip-flop)is to be worn on the foot not the crotch!

There was a kid in school years ago that was considered to be a geeky nerd. The other kids really gave this poor kid a hard time and the bigger kids were always tugging his shorts up and giving him wedgies. The Geek grew up and became a fashion designer. His revenge upon those tormentors of his youth was the creation on the Thong undies. Now he sits in his mansion and laughs at all the "beautiful" people he is responsible not only for giving wedgies to but makes them pay for the priveledge!

Definitely granny panties for me... and very large ones with soft elastic! If I even tried to wear thong underwear, I'd have to have them surgically removed!

Have you noticed the new style for young women that requires wearing thong underwear and pants that hang off their hips, exposing the thong back whenever they bend over? You've got to be very young and brave to do that.

Weez, I also have to have the soft elastic and the soft cotton. About this new style of showing off the thong back, I have seen it and thought about plumbers crack in girls. Aaahhhh such a sight to see. NOT LOL

I have worn Haynes bikini underwear since they came out with them (and whoever made bikini underwear before that). Even though I am (I think) one of the oldest people on DG I have never been able to abide "old lady" underwear. I go bra-less most of the time but I am not a Dolly Parton by any means so it works for me as long as the shirt is not see through or too thin...... and no, I was not a hippie in my youth in case you were wondering. I hate wearing shoes also but make an exception for weddings or cold weather. LOL

42 yrs old and wearing my favorite pair of thong undies right now!
I never thought I'd like them either (the wedgie thing), but purchased in the correct size they are quite comfortable.

Personally I prefer using T-paper between the cheeks and save the flossing for the teeth.

I always wear thongs, can't even tell they're there! I don't even have any of the other type.

I guess if the men decide to join this thread they can talk about those Hanes underwear for men commercials. (You know the locker room guys who are trying to stay in style and dress like Michael Jordon.) Dave may be closing this site down pretty soon! We haven't heard from Trish and Grannylois yet! Dave probably doesn't want to know what kind of underwear his mother wears. LOL

LOL, Elena! I can tell you for a fact that kids don't ever want to even think of their parents in their underwear, granny type or otherwise! I could just picture all our men standing around a locker room in the same underwear! There would certainly be lots of sizes and shapes!

I think that the older you get, the more comfortable you want to be... you "need" to be. If you've got arthritis in your knees, the last thing you want to do is be pulling at your underwear while you're weeding your flower bed. You can only deal with one distraction at a time!

LOL at this thread! I agree with your first post, Ponditis! When the thong fashion appeared, not only was I not interested, I couldn't believe it was an option. Why would anyone choose coach when you can fly first class? More space, softer seats and that extra leg room!

I am in so much pain reading this! LOL Just the giggle I needed. Molly, I thought I coined the phrase "why would I put them there on purpose?" ROTF!! After having 5 kids in 8 years, I can wear nothing but the French Cut Grannies! Anything else just rolls down anyway, or turns into a very uncomfortable belt with a wedgie to boot! LOL My butt and hips always manage to stay larger than my waist. :) I still remember the days of stretchy lace panties and Victorias Secret all the way! My most used phrase now is "What is the world coming to? I can buy my designer underwear at the grocery!" (read that to mean cotton Hanes). Woe is me! I have a question too! Why can you buy store bras up to 48 inches around but nothing bigger than a DD cup??? I am so sick of mail order!
