accents

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

recently I was told by someone that they liked my accent. said person can come forward if he/she wants to.

what accent either regional, national or international do you like?

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I quite like the way up north Scottish accents.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Your accent is charming like it's owner. I also love a good southern drawl. But there is a soft spoken lady down the street from somewhere in China that makes everything she says sound like a sweet sweet song. I could listen to her for hours!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

blushing!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

I also like the Westen Highland accent, which is, as you say Mark, those of Northern Scotland, also your Northern Irish accent I find quite pleasant to the ear.

The Glasgow accent is quite hard, but the dialect is good fun. 'Giesapunnaburrafurramurra', or the old bus conductress' favourite, "Cummoan yous, get aff!!"

I don't like the accents from the entire East coast of Scotland, whether Aberdeen, Fife, or Edinburgh.

*nae borra*

Wintermoor

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I like the New York accent. The Bostonian accent too. I like the Southern drawls!! If I had to choose a local accent then it would have to be yours Barry!! Heh-heh!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Aye!! Me and Billy Connolly, eh? ;-)

I must admit I quite like the Noo Yoik accent, but not so much Baastin, and as you say the Southern Drawl, from whichever state can be quite interesting.

*Och Aye!!*

Wintermoor

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Apart from yours Mark, a geordie (NE England) accent does it for me, and perhaps Greek.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

hey Winter

you have lost me on "Giesapunnaburrafurramurra"

does it read, in the best Queens English -
give one a pound, no bother, for ones mother?

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

in my best Norn Iron accent someone could say

oil nak yer pawn in wee mawn

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Nearly Mark,
it's 'give me a pound of butter, for my Mother'.

Dead eazy, so it is... lol

Wintermoor (fae ra Soo Side)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I kinda like the Savon Murre -Finnish :) And I most of all hate Finnswedish. Just don't like it. It is much easier to understand than "Swedish-swedish". tho..

Gee,I thought we all sounded alike here on DG. I hear no difference in anyone. All equal to me.
Serious note tho....All are tops in my book. I enjoy listening to different people of different nationalities. But I must say,my favorite is the 'English' and then I think the Swedish, and then; I don't know what.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

good one CoCo

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I like your accent mark. takes me a bit to get used to it, where i can understand what you're saying. I love a southern drawl myself, and the Aussies that I've heard on tv and movies sounds wonderful.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

You should put a voice sample online Mark ;) Maybe I should too, you should hear how good I am speaking

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I like southern drawls, and it doesnt tkae me long to fall into speaking with one. I do a lot of business in the south, and after a mill trip down there, I come back with with a funny version of a southern drawl.
Just last night someone said to me, youhave an accent where are you from? and I was floored, it has been years since I had an accent, I have a bastardized accent, as most of youknow I was raised in Turkey, we spoke english at home, italian at school and turkish in between. Then we went to a high school where the classes were taught in English, somewhat of an immersion....anyway, the teachers were from all over the english speaking world, U.K., Australia, South Africa, Zaire, New Zealand, and believe it or not, we also had some Turksih teachers teaching English - if that wasnt a hoot. So, we came away from our schooling with the funniest accent imaginable.

My husband has a very heavy Turkish accent, they cant say the "TH" sound, ey say "D" instead...

I enjoy all accents, but the far eastern ones are the hardest to understand, I prefer doing business with them on paper, cause face to face, I can rarely understand what they are yapping about, and I end up asking them to write things down...It just doesnt pay to miss things when you are negotiating big orders...

Danish! It is really pleasant to listen too:)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Accent? Ya'll mean to say I could be talkin' diffrent than the rest of ya?
Nawwwwww.....

I talk to myself all the time and can't detect whether I have an accent or not.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

LOL SHoe! I don't talk funny other folks do! I love Louisia's accent. It sounds so prim and formal.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Danish sounds funny, somehow "soft". Some people here say that Danes speak with tongue in their throut. (not my opinion, sorry Deblynn =))

southeast, NE

We have a friend who recently moved up here from Oklahoma. He has such a drawl that I tell him to spell things for me. I keep telling him to speak English!

It's funny even in the midwest, you will occaisionally pick up a "ancestry" accent. My brother-in-law has a slight German type of accent and he's at least 4th generation in the US.

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

I love a good AUTHENTIC Virginia accent as demonstrated by NASCAR drivers Ward Burton or Elliot Sadler.

Martin Sheen did a perfect Virginia accent when he played Robert E. Lee in "Gettysburg."

I could also listen to Mel Gibson in "Braveheart" all day. Love a Scottish brogue, but I find them very hard to imitate.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Trouble ;-)

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

I know it's real corny , but I just adore the french accent !! When you hear a deep voice crooning in those tones oooohhhhh !!!1 only problem is though, when you try to speak french to them, as soon as they hear their own language they're off at 500 words per second !and you have to keep saying'pardon?'
Pitch of voice is another thing that does it for me, I love deep resonating voices, or husky voices, one voice that drives me to despair, is Ashley on Corrie aaaggghh!!!!Sorry to any Corrie fans out there.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

EHAW EHAW EHAW

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Mark, your voice wasn't as special as I though, ROFL x)
If I wanted to leave a message, should I have pressed "1"?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hehehe!!! you left that door open mark!

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

Of course, the people in Wisconsin and Minnesota have no accent (according to all my relatives up there). Ya right!! Yer darn tutin' ! [Trying to talk a little like the people in the FARGO movie.]

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

You know, Grannylois, as I was reading this thread, it occurred to me that no one has mentioned that sexy midwest nasal twang. When I was a younster in Indiana, I would have been shocked to think I had an accent, but now that I live in Alaska, I can really hear it! And those Wisconsoners, by golly, hey they sure do talk funny, eh?

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

I stayed at a bed and breakfast just south of Victoria Station a few years ago. The owner would follow me around wanting to talk. And then go back to his wife and they would start to chuckle. Finally I confronted him as to what he thought was so funny. He said nothing was funny, but they got the biggest kick out of my accent and the words I would put together in a discussion. I took it as a complement.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

One of my statistics professors was from Jamaica by way of Canada (or maybe the other way around.) But he had the neatest, melodic accent. The only trouble was, it was easy to be lulled by the cadence of his speech patterns, and too late, I'd realize I had missed several (important) statements he had made!
