Lili Lili Go Away

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (CNN) -- Rapidly gaining power, Hurricane Lili became a dangerous Category 4 hurricane Wednesday as coastal residents of Louisiana and Texas fled inland, some under orders to evacuate. The storm is expected to make landfall Thursday.

I am so worried about our Louisiana girls....

(the other thread was getting too long to open, I have been checking every 10 minutes to see if the girls have posted)

As it stands now, RedRose and Mini have Evacuated.
Lisa is hunkered down ready to wait it out

Be careful girls...

Praying for your safety

Nowcast as of 8:10 PM CDT on October 2, 2002
Now
outer squall bands from Hurricane Lili continues to move across sections of southeast coastal Louisiana... a large band of tropical rainshowers with a few embedded thunderstorms extends from the mouth of the Mississippi River northwest to assumption and Iberville parishes. This band will rotate northwest through 10 PM and produce rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour in some locations. In addition...wind gusts upwards to 40 to 50 miles an hour in this band are possible

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

As of now, New Orleans will be okay, they are not in the area of direct impact. They will get the feeder bands but in danger of the eye wall. Terrebonne, Lafourche and parishes west of New Orleans are in serious danger.

Bud, who is our other cajun buddy is also in danger near Baton Rouge.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I just saw a tornado watch for Houma...Be careful Lisa.

This truly is a terrible threat, but let's try not to add more fear to the mix -- there's enough of that, quite naturally and reasonably, already. Let us stand in the truth of God's protection, in spite of how things appear and how naive that might sound. He can turn the storm, and He can diminish the winds, and He can protect life in the path of the storm if it comes. His blessing is over our friends in Louisiana and will remain in place, no matter the circumstances.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

thank you all for thinking of us. It is 2a.m. and we are getting some very strong winds. Getting very scary here.

LIsa! Are you getting the lightning? If so please unplug your computer!!! I could miss you for a day of no posts but if it fries your system you would be off line wayyyy toooo long!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

No lightening Zany, they rarely have lightening with hurricanes. SO I guess this is the good thing right..LOL! I need an hunk of lead though to keep us grounded..whew is it blowing outside.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

How long do they xpect it to be before it passes?
?

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

zany the eyewall will make landfall somewhere around 5 or 6 a.m. We are now in the dangerous crunch. From now till landfall our weather will be getting progressivly worse. (sorry about the spelling, I could blame it on lack of sleep, but yall know I can't spell..)I ran out of M&M's...rats...talk about not prepared!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

OH NO! NO M&Ms!!!! Call the national guard and have them get you this basic Hurricane necessity at once!

Once it hits land it will slow down? So by morning the worst will be over? Can you tell I have never had to deal with this kind of storm?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

here is CNN report ... http://www.cnn.com/US/

Keep your head down, Lisa

Thinking about you here

Thanks MaVieRose. These things are really something. I have experienced horrible wind storms that landed trees on the roof and closed roads and taken out power for several days but that was nothing compared to the force of these hurricanes!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u're welcome Zany. i've experienced this kind of calamity, one too many times when i was living in the Phils. i can still remember them in detail. very frightening.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Zany, the eye will make landfall somewhere around 5 or 6 a.m. with the eye making landfall that means only part of the storm has passed us. There is an eerie calm that takes place in the eye. It is very quiet, no wind, no rain, you can see the stars if it is at night. Within minutes the second half of the storm hits. This is the dangerous half, packing stronger winds, heavy rain. Hopefully by noon tomorrow this will be over for us, but Lili will move up to central/north Louisiana as a catagory 1 Hurricane which is still very dangerous. They usually downgrade to Tropical Storm status when they travel that far up, but this is a very powerful storm and is moving fast. We are expected to be slammed with a catagory 4, which is considered deadly. The winds will most likely peak out around 145 mph near the eyewall. I hope I don't sound too confusing, as lack of sleep is setting in.

Lisa, your description is remarkably clear and lucid and helpful. Lack of sleep is not impairing your ability to communicate and help us understand what you are facing. I remember many hurricanes when I was a little girl living for a time in New Haven, Connecticut -- it's hard to describe what they are like, and you have done an excellent job. You have also kept your sense of humor, and that is no minor accomplishment in all this! It goes without saying that I'm praying constantly for you and everyone there.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

So are those cats still sleeping with the kids? It is amazing how much they can sleep through isn't it! But sweetie are you going to get any sleep? Sounds like you should get some shuteye befor the world wakes up and the kids need hugs!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

hopefully when lili touches ground it will lost some of it's intensity. typical behavior of typhoons. i pray this is true in ur case Lisa. here's praying The Almighty's Arm embrace ALL on Lili's path.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

We still have power here so I thought I'd touch basis. THe wind has been blowing maybe around 60 mph at times. The Hurricane is expected to make landfall (the eye) in about an hour and a half. We no longer have television, our cable was blown at 3 a.m. I've not had any sleep other than a cat nap or two. Everytime I try the wind wakes me up and I am all ears. Since 2 a.m. we have been having a rough time, with wind gusts up to about 60-65 mph at times. Now we are narrowing down on the bad stuff. I'll keep yall posted as long as I can.

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Try to get at least a wee bit of sleep Lisa, you never know, you may end up sleeping through the worst.

*here's hoping*

Wintermoor

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

LOL wintermoor, I only wish! I'm afraid I'll not sleep, no matter how much I try !

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Lisa I felt sure you would be taking a least a nap. My goodness!! How is it that men really can sleep through anything!! I can't believe how brave you are!! YES I CAN!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hon, don't know if you are without power now, but it's only electricity. The Real Power is there with you. we love you lisa, hang on it's almost over.

You're almost through the worst of it. So glad the storm is now a 2. I just know you will be fine, and so will our other friends at DG. You must be exhausted, hope you can get a little rest later. God bless you.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Lisa, dear Lisa....How are you doing today? What a frightening experience for you to go thru. Hope all is well.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Hope you are through the worst part and can finally get some much needed rest.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

we still have power, landfall has been made and we are doing great. Lots of wind, limbs down and rain. But, it could be so much more horrible. I feel as if a ton had been lifted. I am soooooo happy, but sooooo tired! Thank you friends. Now if we can just hear good news from our other friends. I hope they did as well as us!

I don't know where Mini went -- I think RedRose is in Natchez. I imagine it might be a day or so until they post, but I hope it's soooner if they have access to computers. Has anyone spoken with them on cell phones? God's blessing covers them and am sure they are all right.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

our power is now flicking from dim to bright, I hope we don't have power faliure now, we did so well :-)

Will pray for your power to hold. God bless you.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Lisa..so glad that you made out ok. If you've lost power I hope it's back soon.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

just a flicker, we are still doing fine, wind is still blowing pretty hard, maybe about 50 mph gusts.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Lisa,
I am at work but just had to check in and see how everyone in La is doing. So glad Lili slowed down to a 2! Is the worst over yet?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Just saw about the hurricane from the news.. Looked like a lot of rain and wind. I'm happy we don't have hurricanes here.
