"The Smithsonian Institution Libraries have a unique trade catalog collection that includes about 10,000 seed and nursery catalogs dating from 1830 to the present. " So begins their introduction...
The covers that they have on display are just beautiful. I wish they had more on line and wish they had scans of some of the interior pages (would like to know what was available and for how much in 1830!), but it is a lovely start. Perhaps we could email them and encourage them to put more of their collection online.

Seed catalogs from the Smithsonian
Wow!!! That's really neat Karla. I agree it would be interesting to see the prices and descriptions they give.
Beautiful covers!!!!

Thanks, Karla!
I have quite a collection of seed catalogs, though I am forced to throw away the ones that are outdated due to lack of space.
I try to get every mail order (seeds/plants/bulbs) catalog that will ship to California.
I DO love looking at the old ones, though...and some old garden books and magazines as well. I have some of the old garden magazines and reproductions of old garden books.
They are just wonderful, great works of art. It would be nice to be able to read the information inside.
Thanks
