OOPS PDB Boob

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Sorry, somehow have managed to get two and a half versions of the photo i was putting in!

It's of Sedum spectabile 'Autumn Joy'
Please can you delete the first two - the first has no caption and the second is only half there!

The bottom one is as i intended.
Thanks

I took care of it...but oh dear, I didn't see your message first, and I worked from the bottom up, and deleted the the wrong one :(

Please resubmit the photo and I'll delete the top one, too - I'm sooooo sorry!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

That's ok g_v. I'll put the new one on now.

Thanks a lot, sorry to give you yet more work!

All i had to do was add a caption to the remaining photo g_v. However there are lots of other entries as sedum spectabile -including one from Dave of 'Autumn Joy' that has no entries apart from photos. Shouldn't these all be accessible from the main entry, and then just show them as different cultivars of the species?

I didn't even realise they were there from my original search.

philomel, there have been numerous debates (sometimes I even argued with myself - not sure who won :) over whether each cultivar should have its own entry or be part of one main entry.

To keep the PDB consistent, it made sense to give each cultivar its own distinct entry:

1) if we tried to place all cultivars under one common entry, we'd end up with a real mess for plants with few genus or species and numerous cultivars like roses, hemerocallis, hosta, iris, etc.

2) by creating separate entries, there's also less confusion over which photo belongs to which cultivar. You know at a glance which plant is being referred to in the information provided.

We *do* need to spend some serious time "filling in the blanks" of many entries. I'm as guilty as anybody of adding plants with just a smattering of information, and leaving a lot of "holes" So I'm forming a scheme, (errr, challenge) for this winter to encourage us to spend some time getting all the entries more complete. Seems like a good way to get through that period after the holidays and before we can start sowing seeds and working in the gardens again :)

(But of course, you don't have to wait until then - anytime you spot something you can fill in quickly, please do so. It's what I do whenever I'm cruising around in the PDB.)

Ok g_v. I put my pic in both places, so if you want to delete it from the S. spectabile entry and just leave it in S.s.'Autumn Joy', please do

You are too funny! Did you read your title??

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Am i missing something here mings?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

philomel, I took care of the photos, and also combined the two 'Autumn Joy' entries - sorry, I didn't realize you were meaning there were two entries for that cultivar :)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Thanks, you're a wonder g_v :)

my screen says boob ! Don;t know what everyone elses says. and since no one else has commented. mine must be weird.

sorry! So, when is a boob not a boob. WOW! Splitting hairs here. Sorry. Here in Pennsylvania, a boob is a boob... Would of used another "b: and called it a boo-boo. Personal opinion. just was asking. Sorry.

I've never once used that word in the context in which you are thinking it, mingsmimi. Actually, I don't use that word at all (just as I don't use words like Dummy, Idiot, Fool, etc) but every time I hear that word, it is in the context that vols' described above.

WOW!I'm 46 years old. Work with men. married to one. No man I know would call that anything but!!! And for the record. I don;t use that word either. I assumed as I would think many would that it was a typ-o error. There are alot of words out there that people use to mean different things. oviously. just learned one new phrase tonite. Guess ya learn something new everyday here thanks to DG!

It must be a difference of location; dialect, I suppose.

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

Guess so. I just emailed my 2 brother on laws. One , a minister., one a librarian. They both agreed with me. Which was interesting since they are brothers and never agree on anything.

I was definitely using this to mean gaff, blunder, faux pas. It is commonly used as such in the UK and noone thinks anything of it. It certainly could be double entendre i suppose - that's up to someone else's mind, not mine.

I've never ever come across the meaning of foolish person - that would always have a y on the end over here. You may have noticed from my other posts that i am not in the habit of using insulting language. In fact, on this occasion, i was pointing out that I had made a mistake, that is all.

Yes, Dave, location it is!
:)

see how different parts of the world look at things differently! when we here in the U.S. watch Ab Fab or other shows. we miss half of what is being said because we don;t use the same type of words to mean the same thing. At the salon today.... this came up alot in conversation. And no one would of used the term the way you said it was meant to be. but everyone I talked to all day long.> male and female. said the other meaning. Interseting huh???Its not insulting launguage. just a difference of a way of speaking.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

The same as gestures around the world can have entirely different meanings

And language gets altered, eg I've noticed a few people on DG use "of" instead of "have" in the way you have:
"And no one would of used the term......."

This is actually a corruption coming from:
And no one would've used the term.......
From:
And no one would have used the term.......

Yes, language and how it evolves is fascinating

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

hahaha! Sure is! :)I found out the hard way. Phrases we use all the time didn;t go over well. Got flagged.

I think a lot of spelling and grammatical errors result from people typing phonetically - "would of" sounds like "would've", for example. Something like that is probably a case of people typing what they've always heard in their minds, but never really noticed spelled out.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

True, yes that's what i meant gw, and i spose that's one of the ways language moves on over time
