Brugmansias: Brug Pollinating 101

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

They are not self fertile Nuts. Only the sangs and arboreas are. So you need to take the pollen from a different kind to get a pod. Each seed you get from the same pod will be genetically different. Some look very different and some look somewhat similar to the others from the same pod or from the same cross.

If you want another plant just like the mother plant, or father plant for that matter, you need to do so by cuttings, not seed.

Oh, Bummer, Kell
I was getting excited at the thought of getting seed pods.
Thanks for letting me know.

I only have the yellow one blooming. My Snowbank is still little.

Waving back!! Oohhh Kim what a beauty i've not had the pleasure of a double yet

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

KimBob,what made that beautiful Brug double?

I fully expect to see a Brug growing out my nose . I can't believe how much of a mess I made on my second try. My nose is still stinging. I got the paint brush full of pollen and the wind blew the stuff right up my nose☻The cat went flying off the deck so I think I might have pollened him too! Dang! Why do I always struggle so☻

Hi Bonnie, Kim, and Lu.

Lucille, if I knew the answer to your question "What made ..brug double?" I'd be a bontonist and hopefully rich. lol. In which I'm neither, all I know it's all in the genetic make-up of the cultivar. I also know, being a hybrid, the brug can be propagated successfully with cuttings. Thanks to mother nature's wonderous works.

Best of lucks, Lu with your pollination experiment. I lucked out last year trying the pollination, I know you can do it as well. Please keep us posted.
