First time I met her

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Evert, It looks like I missed several posts...and pictures of her. I love the Christening outfit, she does look like a doll. She is really a beautiful baby!

Here, they put a chip on the wrist band of new born babies, so that if someone tries to steal the baby, the doors to the hospital lock down. In other words, when the baby is ready to check out, the alarm on the wristband is de-activated, so when they leave, they leave normally. If the chip has not been de-activated, alarms sound, and doors are locked. We've had way too many cases where babies were stolen from the hospital.

:)

We don't have any alarms like that here. I've never heard anyone stealing a baby from a Finnish hospital. Here babies only have an ID band in their arms.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

we also have had many stories of babies being stolen from hospitals. Our hospitals vary. some are stricter than others. It wasnt that brilliant where I had my babies. Your hospital systems sound a little scary though pebble.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Psilo, this system is just now being used. I had not heard of it till someone told me. It is kind of scary, but I guess there have been enough abductions that it warrants these strict measures. It is very scary to think about this whole scenario...

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Heather is beautiful - aren't they all?? As for sleeping all the time - tell that to my DD and DIL. I think they would totally disagree......:-)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

beautiful baby evert. I had names for all of mine ready months before they were born.
GL, don't know why it's different here because we are so close, but I'd say 75% of babies of churched parents here are *never* christened. I was in church when all four of mine were born, and they weren't. It depends on the denomination, not lack of attending church.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TiG, I agree, I was christened when I was a few weeks old, same gown that everyone had worn, and my daughter wasn't. I just didn't think about it.
Evert, she is beautiful. The gown is beautiful too. Is it silk?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I don't know... could be.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Psilo, your newest niece is very beautiful. I get to go to church this morning and babysit 12 infants/toddlers while the moms attend the weekly prayer and Bible study group. One of my favorite days. And today I really need to hold a few babies.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Yes lupine you can draw so much comfort and love from a young baby cant you. Give them all an extra hug from me.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

"...Why are all babies so sleepy?"

Oh, Evert, they aren't. Just ask her parents - between 2 and 4 am, she's probably wide awake, lolol.

Like tiG mentioned, some of us don't christen our children, but we do worship Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night ;-) It's a matter of doctrinal differences.

I did pick out very special, delicate outfits to bring each one home from the hospital, and to wear to church services and other special occasions until they outgrew it. (With the first two, I purchased two outfits, one for a boy and one for a girl. With the last one, we already knew it was a girl, so I didn't actually purchase a boy's outfit. But DH knew which one to go buy just in case "she" turned out to be a "he".)

She's adorable, Evert. Enjoy her at every age!

Little Falls, MN(Zone 4a)

Both babies are so precious....congratulations!
Evert...my husbands Mother's name is Johannes. Also my sister married a Johannes, but she's now divorced. Small world, wonder if there's any relation there?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I thought Johannes is only a man's name? Here Johanna is like "female Johannes". Know what I mean? =)

Little Falls, MN(Zone 4a)

Evert, when I say Johannes that is their last name (their fathers name). Do you know what I mean? Like Michael John Johannes or Dorothy Ann Johannes.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

....? Like it is their surname?

Little Falls, MN(Zone 4a)

Kind of like a surname. It's the family name, common to all members, not a Christian or given name.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Silja and her family visited us yesterday, and left today. She had grown up.. We had great time with both kids, Konsta even "helped" me and my friend delivering the papers. We put him into the vagons and took him outside for a walk. He sat on the newspapers ;) Sure was fun for him.

Very cute!!! (They grow up fast, just ask any parent here; or ask your own parents - they probably can't hardly believe you're not still that size!)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I just can't stand looking at babies I can't reach! It's hard to resist grabbing them when they're in person, and one of my friends told me I have baby lust. So you know I'm just looking here and feeling that urge to hold her. Oh, I so agree, they grow up so soon. Take plenty of pictures when you get an opportunity. Lovely little baby.

Very precious pictures, Evert! What a little cutie, and how nice to watch her development through your photos.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, Aimee, don't you hate the bruised knuckles from them hitting the monitor glass?! Evert, she's darling - what a smile!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Yes she was very cute, she kept funny voices (such as vävävävää) and drooled on my shirt..

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Evert. it has been great revisiting this thread, watching your niece grow up and now you have another baby in the family....And look at you, you too have grown up since we first started chatting. You are getting more and more handsome.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

wow how did i miss this thread! she is a dolly babe and the new lil guy is just precious. You are very lucky Evert and so are the little ones.
All my cousins lived in CA or OH and i got to see the OH ones once a yr and the CA ones once growing up!!

We dont christen baby in my religion-but we do dedicate them to be raised as Christians and taught the ways of Jesus. :)
We baptize when you are older and you make your up your own mind that you are ready to live for Jesus.

PRECIOUS

Howard, PA(Zone 6b)

How sweet! God Bless you and the little one...so many people here are having babies that it seems to be "the season, " and they are all so lovely, beloved, and of course, precious. Thankfully, If everyone here took as careful care of their children as they do their plants and animals...I think we would have a blessed nation of wonderful people.

Thank you all for your life-affirming ways and for your particular method of contribution to Dave's Garden, whatever it is.. I learn so much throughout the tromping through the files and posts.

Take Care,

Melissa Moyer
