are yall nervous yet? I sure am, we better all be hanging on to our britches. Seems like big bad Isidore has his sites on the Gulf of Mexico and by Sunday when he gets in the Gulf he will be a catagory 3..yikes! So yall ready? I don't even have a game plan, watching nervously! I just wish it would go away :-(
Gulf Coast DG's....
Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers! Our local weather forecasters have been tracking this storm, too - it's probably going to bring us some storms as well, although nothing like what ya'll might be in for. I'm hoping it'll just go away, too...
Too bad they don't just go away go-vols--what makes it so bad now is that I know and am close to someone that is in every state that could get hit. We have DG's dotted all over the Gulf coast, that makes it hard to hope it goes somewhere else. I think this Hurricane will be as big as Andrew by the time it makes landfall.
Lisa, load your car and come to my house!!! At least, move to safer ground at a motel somewhere, till it blows over!! God help all those in harm's way!!
"eyes"
God be with you all. It is definately scary.
Lisa, do as eyes says, pack up and get out of there.
no packing up for me yet yall, they don't know who will get the storm, could be anybodys ball game once it is in the Gulf. So that means all of us between Mexico to Fla. will be watching and waiting.
I was hoping to hear from other Gulf Coasters also, I was wondering what their local news is telling them. Our news is just saying not to wait until the last minute for a plan, just in case. The storm has no steering currents, which makes it very unpredictable at this point.
We're glued to the forecasts here and will be 'til it's over. Yes, this is predicted to be a biggie. We don't have storm shutters made either...but we do have the wood. I'm really glad I had my big trees trimmed this week!
Lisa, Fill the bathtub! Jo
lol jo, you been through this song and dance before?
hah! Jo says that sentence in falsetto! ♫fill the bathtub ♫♫
I don't live in Fla anymore but whenever there is a big storm/possible power outtage here I STILL wash out the tub good and make it ready for filling! Cain't hep it!
Lisa.. Yes I am nervous but stay postive.. We lives less 45 mintues to the shores(Holly Beach,LA).. We are watching Forecast close. I feel that hurricane will be big than Andrew. I had a experience with Andrew.. NOT FUNNY! SInce we lives in mobile trailer.. Good thing we havent start build our house yet.. It it come toward here.. We will be leave to go north LA or Ark or North Texas.. My mom lives in New Iberia by Lydia, LA. Praying it will go away...
I'll be praying for all of you! I hope this veers off and heads back out. I don't know much about these storms, but I can pray.
Of course Yes I will be very nervous and so worry what is going to happen if hit our trailer not know what to do next.
I hope not hit here or else and hope that hurricane turn around to go back to Gulf and disppear!
Our local forecaster said not to get to concerned just yet and it looks like this storm will not be a real threat until about Tuesday or Wednesday, and we will have time to do what we have to do - leave, buy batteries, portable radios, hurricane maps, canned food, lots of crackers, and right, fill your bathtub. you not only can take a bath, but pour some in your toilet tank and you can flush! We went through Camille, and I sure hope it is not anything like that, but i guess our newsman wants to avoid a panic. No, I am really not panicky, not yet. Just keep up with the weather, and think about leaving if you live in a mobile home. God bless anybody who gets this one, even if it is just a bad blow.
I leave the area if it is a 3+ heading my way. The flood zone is in the middle of my street. I can withstand a 4 I think but I have animals and I leave to make sure they have a place to go. My school is a shelter, but, no animals allowed. Enough said.
This one is starting to look ominous.
yes it is weeds and whoever gets hit, it is going to be a hard hit.:-(
I want all of you to take care, and batton down the hatches!! I'm gonna be biting ten penny nails here!!
"eyes"
We have our to do list for tomorrow..tie down loose stuff in the yard, get out the toilet seat for the 5gal.bucket,make sure the pitcher pump is primed, gas for the generator and so on. Will be interesting to see how the dogs react..they have come to hate storms..nothing like a 120lb. scared lap dog!!
Yes, I'm gonna pick up a few necessary items (lamp oil, distilled water, etc.) even though we don't know exactly where it's going yet. Wait til later and there won't be anything to pick up. I fill up everything I can for toilet water, washing water, cooking water, etc. Sure need the rain, but don't want those high winds.
Well this will be my first big storm and I have no clue what to expcect and with just moving I'll just have to go inland to be clear if it hits here.
Lisa do you take things off the walls like art work and mirros in preperation for the storm, or just board up windows and hope for the best I have no Idea what all I should do.
I plan to stock up on what I can but again not have going through this I have no idea of what all to have on hand.
Like you I hope it just goes away but I don't think that will be likely.
Mike the new Floridian
Mike, are you at the same Navarre as in Navarre Beach? If so, that is great! I'll be seeing you sometime in the near future. We travel that way at least once a year.
As for taking stuff off the wall, no, I never have done so. We usually board up the windows. If a hurricane is a catagory 3, it is very wise to leave if you are right on the coast. Tonight the weatherman is being very positive, he seems to think the storm may take towards the Mexican coast. In a way, I think I'd rather see it hit the U.S. coastline, those poor folks on that coast(Mexico) have nothing, not even proper shelter.
Yes Navarre beach.
Mike, you will have plenty of time to prepare; just pay attention to the weather reports ( as if you didn't already know that) but they will give advisories. Be sure you fill your gas tank up in all your cars, cause you never know how long the electicity may be out and gas pumps run on electricity. Get plenty of charcoal, lighter, and a grill, cause if it is real bad and the electricity is out a long time, you will have lots and lots of meat to grill cause you and your neighbors's freezer will thaw and needs to be cooked. Just something to remember, turn you refrigerator and freezer up to the highest setting when you first suspect it may come your way, and do not open your freezer unless absolutely necessary. If you have small kids, buy plenty of pampers; wash all dirty clothes, put up plywood against large windows facing the south, put up garbage cans, and anything else outside, fill your tubs with water, fill up milk jugs with water to drink (or buy ), get flashlight batteries, and if it is more than a Cat. 4, and if you can, just leave the area. It will only be overnight, probably, and I think that is what I would do if I was not familiar with hurricanes. We will not leave, even if a Cat. 5, cause we are not on the coast and we just never have left; just use your good common sense and you will be fine. Oh, yeah, one more thing; be sure you get some cash, cause a bad storm can close down the banks for several days. Wherever you are, if you are in an area that gets strong winds, if your family is with you or if you are alone, put mattresses in the floor in the hall, or a supported area and that is probably going to be the hall, get your pillow, make sure you have a battery radio with lots of batteries, good flashlights, and remember, it won't last long. If you do decide to leave the area, just don't wait til the last minute, cause the traffic will be bad. If you don't leave, and decide at the last minute you do not feel comfortable, be sure you know ahead of time where the shelters are located; usually, a school and it is definitely announced. Like I said, we have never left the area, we just use common sense and it has been fine. Another thing, lots of times when one or more of our four kids had cars that only had liability insurance on it, well we would make sure we put the car in a protected area, like in a garage, or in a field that a tree cannot fall over on it. Also, you cannot get insurance when hurr. is in Gulf.
At least with a huricane you get warnings and can prepare! With us it is earthquakes and you have to be prepared all the time!
This thread reminded me that since we moved I need to restock the emergency supplies!
very good advice to Mike, Roz! Also Mike since you are in Navarre it would be a good idea to find out from neighbors if your area takes on water. If so, take your furniture and lift it off the floor, set them on blocks or if you have an upstairs, tote them up. Like Roz said, make sure you have plenty food and water - for water they say at least 3 gls per person. When Andrew hit us, we were out of power for a week, it was hot and horrible, but we sure ate well. Neighbors were cooking out of their freezers and helping one another.

Yes About Andrew.. I went through like JustmeLisa did. I don't want to go throught that again.
My sister and her family lost everything but the clothes they had on in Andrew. It was horrible. They lived in Homestead. They were offered temporary housing in Winterhaven right outside Orlando and ended up staying. They really like mid Florida. Andrew pretty much changed her way of thinking on lots of things forever.
Wow I guess I am very green when it come to stroms, I have never had to go through anything like that before.
I was hit by a tornado a few years back when I lived in OHio but had no warning. lost most everything in the shop I had so we started over.
thanks for the advise and I'll get to some of the prep. work tonight but it looks like it may not hit us.
Mike, by far, tornadoes and earthquakes , it seems to me, would be worse cause there is no warning. Don't get too worried until about Tuesday.
Thanks Roz
