Has any one ever heard of Smiley Burnette? He was the sidekick to Gene Autry and on old western movies. He was also on Petticoat Junction. (personally I had never heard of him till last year). My husband has been developing a website for the Burnette family if any one is interested.

Any one heard of Smiley Burnette
Sure do remember him! Talk about a name from the past!
Oh Man you know I am on it! Gene Autry shot movies up in Pioneertown!
Kathy Could you ask your husband if Smiley ever made any movies with Gene Autry in Pioneertown , or Joshua Tree,California? I know he had a few sidekicks. Just curious.
I see Joshua Trees in the background on picture entitled"Mexicali Rose 1939"

michele5000,
We don't really know, but you could send a message through the Smiley website and a member of the Burnette family or a friend who is a historian might know, they try to answer all the questions they get through the site.
Glad someone knew who he was...after all the hours my husband worked on the site.
Thanks
I loved Smiley Burnette, or as we remember him most..."Frog Millhouse". Wasn't Mexicali Rose the only movie Gene ever kissed a girl in...then it was behind a sombrero? My memory is not TOO good...but have seen all his movies. Jo
One of my greatest childhood memories. A Saturday morning movie with the likes of Gene and Roy and Gabby Hayes and of course Smiley. Those were the days. I saved the link to my favorites and will visit from time to time. Thanks for the post.
Yes indeed I remember him. I am saving the link also. Back in the old days we all watched movies with our cowboy heroes and their sidekicks. Smiley always looked like such a sweetie pie and I loved that voice of his. I have never heard anyone else talk like that.
Thanks Kathy, I will email the website. If you would like to get a more like minded audience , they can link to The Old West Living History Foundation, Pioneertown's website, and GFH site too :) Ill make the suggestion.
The sidekicks never got enough credit, IMHO. Smiley, Gabby, and Pat Brady come to mind right away.
And remember Red Ryder and Little Beaver (played by Bobby Blake, now known as Robert Blake?).
