"Search" feature changed?
Too much change too soon is bad!!!
The reality of it, however, is that the forum searching comprised well over 98% of all searches (meaning that members clicked the threads 98% of the time, and the other stuff 2% of the time).
I have to focus my energy on pleasing the most people, and 98% is an overwhelming majority.
DG has turned from a tools website to a discussion-based community, and the search engine reflects that change.
This isn't to say that the tools won't get the attention they deserve from me - they will. Now that the discussion area has been handled, my next project for DG is to take care of my big backlog of TODO stuff, mostly concerning the Plants Database.
And, once that is done, I will turn my attention to the Journals, Trade Lists, Trade Tracker, and the other tools.
Of course, it's all as time allows. I'm trying to work doing consulting, as well, so I only afford myself a block of time every few days.

dave, I don't know how you do it all!!! this was a huge undertaking to give us so much and I love it. and the site is still flying!!!!!!
It's trying to. :) There's a very long ways to go, and there are still a lot of rough edges to a few of the areas that still need fixing. Hopefully most of the folks will like it.

Well, this member cannot find anything to complain about :)
I am loving the changes and am fascinated how they have been implimented with no major problems or down time! Your Clients must adore you!
I'm overwhelmingly impressed. No complaints here either. This is why I call you "Mr. Dave, Sir". "T" :)
Putting on my "just a regular ole member" hat here - Dave, big kudos!!! The changes are terrific (I guess sometimes change is hard, but these are wonderful improvements in functionality and format.)
And in case ya'll are wondering, no - I had no idea he was about to spring all these surprises on us, so I got to react to them just like all the members :)
Too many changes too soon? Well, I personally don't think so. But even if that were the case, I'd still say that's better than too few changes and a stagnate website that looks just like it did three or four or five years ago... JMHO :)
changes, yes. too many? maybe. Unwelcome (to me)? not at all (mostly). I know when I find other places that say "last updated 8/98" or whatever, I always wonder just what was updated, the format or the information? I most like the dynamic, ever-updated information here.
One last thing, are you going to go back to "today" on the date line?
Regarding the "Today" question. I'm not sure. A lot of folks spoke against it, and really, I don't know if the majority even liked it enough. I didn't think it necessary to put it back in.
dave
I like all the changes! Great move there, dave!

"Change is inevitable,(except from vending machines!)".
Dave...I like showing the actual date...not TODAY. You first started using Today...and I got used to it, then I didn't know you had takine it off again so I thought all the post were YESTERDAY! Since I have to look at TODAY and wonder ..."what day is today"...need to find the previous post to decided if it is TODAY...or YESTERDAY or TOMORROW. Leave the date, Please? Jo

RR, that is when I first noticed it. I got lazy and started checking to see if the comments were posted "today" and I thought they were all the previous day's! Not a big deal for me either way, but it threw me there for a short time. Help, I am trapped in the Twilight Zone kind of feeling.
