I don't have a dig. camrea...all my photos are done with 35mm, so when I post them they come out somewhat distorted. I am keeping the pixels down to the size suggested. The photos get distorted if I resize or not. Can you tell me what causes this? Is there anyway to have clear pics posted without a dig. camera? Thanks, Lisa
Dave, question about photo posting...
Nor me Lisa - so we just use an old camera and the scanner!!
Oh thanks Jioseyguy!! What a great idea!! Lisa
Lisa,
You haven't posted very many pictures here, so I can't really find any images from you except for the one on your homepage there, which appears to be proportioned correctly.
When you say distorted, do you mean that the image comes out to wide or too tall, stretching the image?
Can you point me to an image that you've posted that didn't come out correct? This has me fairly puzzled.
I am processing images on DG when somebody uploads an image, and there very well could be a bug in there somewhere. The image upload code is fairly complex and I've already had to fix many bugs in the images. :(
FYI: What I do when you upload a picture:
First compress it to 75% of the original quality. This usually cuts the file size down anywhere from 10% - 500% depending on the image.
Then the system takes the image, figures out how may pixels wide it is, and how many pixels tall it is, divides that by two. Then it looks to see if it's small enough. If not, divide by two again. Repeat until the image is no more than 180 pixels tall and 120 pixels wide. It then saves this new smaller image as a thumbnail. The original is untouched.
So, there's all the details. Now just point me to the page where the images are distorted and I'll take a look-see.
Dave
Hey dave, thanks..to me all the pictures I post don't look as clear as the original, even the one on my page. Maybe because I have the original and I see the difference...i dunno..I just posted a pic on the photo forum for you to take a look at. It is a little fuzzy, not as sharp as the original one. Hope this helps you out..Lisa
Lisa,
E-mail me the same photo that you posted to the photos forum so I can compare the two.
I am doing compression on these images, which does degrade the quality slightly (but usually not noticably). I'd like to do some comparisons and see if I can fix this.
Dave
Dave, I would like to put a pic of my peony leaf on the ID forum. I have it scanned onto my computer, how do I send it to you? It will not send to http://etc. I do not understand computers much and my ability to learn anything new is very restricted-any easy directions?
Daylily pictures!
I borrowed a digital camera over this past weekend and took about 40 photos of my daylilies. Unfortanetly they are all at 1600.
Dave, is there a free or shareware tool for making these more managegable. Or should I just e-mail you the 40 some megs of images, that way Trish can get a first request of plants from me!
