The little town of Mt. Angel(pop.3200) that you see is a part of my address just finished hosting the fall festival of Oktoberfest. It runs 4 days and 400,000 people visit this event. The heart of town about 4 square blocks is closed off and food and craft booths line the streets. There are other sporting events, a biergarten, winegarten and lots of German music, street dancing, polkas etc. The heritage of this town is German Catholic. We have a beautiful Gothic church with extensive stenciling and they held some free concerts too. It is a busy long weekend. I had a booth and sold fresh flowers, ornamental grass, some lumina pumpkins etc. My location was near the train depot( kind of out of the main location of everything else) I did it mostly for publicity for my new cutflower and dahlia tuber venture and part fundraiser for my youngest's school All in all I am tired and glad to be done. I just saw where Cala did a plant sale for a hospital. Anyone else ever get involved in these festivals with food or craft booths?
Oktoberfest
By the way if you wish to see more visit www.oktoberfest.org and you will see a little of Mt. Angel. I actually live out of town about 4 miles.
I really enjoyed the Octoberfests in Ohio. Cincinnati has a nice as does Dayton and there are some really nice ones in northern Ohio which has a lot of people of german descent. I miss them. They don't have them here.
