BEWARE OF THESE COMPANIES!

(Zone 5a)

These are two of the companies that have somehow gotten my credit/debit card number and made charges more than once to my account without my knowledge or permission.

www.vistaprint.com
Total DVD, Pyrmont, Ontario

I sent an email to Vistaprint on 9-12-02 to let them know that I didn't order anything and have not received anything from them but my account was charged, so far I have not received any response. The Total DVD company I couldn't even find on the internet and I tried to call the phone number that was on my account but got no answer.
I am posting this to alert you about these two companies so that you won't have the same thing happen to you.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

That is terrible, hope you get it straightened out!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I hope you contacted your cr card co too - I think they need something in wrihing from you stating that you are contesting these charges - Then you don't pay that portion of your contested bill til it is straightened out. Call thm and find out what to do!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

That's so weird how easily people get in credit card troubles there, I've never heard that happening here :o

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Evert,

It's everywhere....perhaps your youth is showing?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Yes, I know it has happened here for sure, but I haven't ever heard of it. What do you mean "youth is showing"?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Windsurfer, when I graduated fr college in 2000, vistaprint.com sent me a free order of business cards. Since then, I have re-ordered fr them.
I'm setting here looking @ their business card. It says
"If you aren't 100% satisfied with your order, contact:
customercare@vistaprint.com"
Is this the address you sent your message to? If not, try sending them another message @ this address. Be sure to ask for who's name is on that order you were charged for. I would more likely think that whoever has your cr card # gave it to vistaprint rather than them just chrging your cr card.

Evert,

It means that perhaps you aren't aware of what all goes on since you are so young. Not a criticism, just a possible reason for why you had never heard of it.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

No, I don't think it is that. I even asked my parents and they said they haven't heard anything like that. And most people here don't use credit card if they are buying something from Finnish internet companies, we use internet bank, it is much easier, and secure. I have used it many times...

Do you have pin-codes to use with your cc's?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

We have 4-digit pin codes with oru credit cards that we use when we want to get cash from an ATM with our cards or put money to chip. We also have "secure numbers" that we use when paying with internet bank. They are different every time.

Same here in Norway; but I can use my Visa on the web without being asked for anything. I was wondering about the American CC's; do you need a code like this? Does the CC's have pictures on them?

markleysburg, PA(Zone 5a)

Someone got my cc number in May Right away my company called me as they were charges to The Gap and American Outfitters and Porn shops=something a 64 yo minister woudlnt buy. They caught it right away. I travel in some real rural areas and have to use my cc to buy gas etc there . Easy for someone who has to write numbers down instead of haing a machine availabe to process the cards to get your numbers. charges were 289 and the company just sent me an affidavit that my card was in my possession and I havent heard anything since then. Azelea no one stole my credit card they stole my credit/debit card number and gave it to these companies. My bank cut up my card as soon as I took it to them. I did sign three or four statements that I didn't make these purchases, the bank is now doing an investigation.

Smockette I went to their web page and clicked on coustomer service and sent an email directly to them. You know as well as I that every company says that, so that doesn't mean that it is always true. I have sent another letter yesterday and still have not received response.

Arsenic I had a pin number but that has also changed plus the old card has been destroyed.

Marclay my card is more of a debit card than a credit but can be used both ways because of certain machine at the local stores here won't except a debit card.

Windsurfer - you should also call the consumer fraud division of your county and state Attorney General's office. They will then be made aware of these companys.

I heard an interesting thing this a.m. on a radio call in show. The show featured consumer fraud. They said that people should not use debit cards to order anything online from a company that people are unsure of.

Credit card fraud and identity theft is skyrocketing - very scarey stuff.

(Zone 5a)

Your so right, it's so sad that we have to put up with this kind of thing.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

The VistaPrint order -- surely they will have the name/address of whoever used your card, since they'd most likely be stupid enough to have the order shipped to themselves. I've used VistaPrint, too, and have not had any problems; I don't think it was the company that is the problem, but rather the person who got ahold of your account number. However it happened, it's a crying shame and I sure hope you can come to a good resolution!

Iola, WI

That's really bad news!
I had a credit card application that I was ready to drop in the mail the same day a confirmation of my pin # arrived! (get it? I never actually applied for the card at that time, but there was my pin #) I called them and told them I nor my husband had never applied. We now have a credit fraud alert filed with the 3 major credit reporting agencies.
The only downfall with a fraud alert is that you can't get "instant credit". You must be reached at your home phone # to OK an application.

GW I have written three letters to Vistaprint and sitll haven't heard a word from them, consider your self lucky.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Kit -- Try faxing them directly. Here's a link with their contact info, including fax and physical address: http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/about_us/about_us.asp?

At this http://www.bbbonline.org/profile.asp?ID=102010982521043 is the Better Business Bureau's page on VistaPrint, including a contact name for customer support, along with a phone number. I'd cc any further correspondence to/with VistaPrint to the BBB and to VistaPrint's marketing partners, listed here: http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/partners.asp?

There is a "Total DVD" located in Pyrmont, but it's Australia: http://www.totaldvd.com.au/shopping/ . I wonder if that's the same company.

There's a Total DVD magazine, too -- http://www.totaldvd.net but I'm unsure of where it's published.

Thanks GW for the links but I don't have a fax machine. The bank is looking into it as well. I have tried calling the 1-800 number but I get a message telling me to go online to customer service...YEA RIGHT!!!!
I'll do some checking on the DVD place and let you know what I find out, again thanks.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

If you e-mail me your letter, I can fax it for you. You could also install free fax software and fax it right from your computer - the programs let you choose the fax software as a printer and your document just "prints" directly to the fax software and out it goes. You'll probably have a lot better luck with fax than e-mails, truthfully. Let me know if I can help!

(Zone 5a)

Ok I will email you tomorrow, and thanks so much for the help :}
