Credit Or Debt Card Rip Offs

(Zone 5a)

Since I have been so badly ripped off I thought that I would post the names of the companies that has taken me for a ride. Let me first say that I have never ordered or even heard of these people until they fraudulenty stole monies from me,nor have I ever received anything from them.

The first one is Vistaprint.com I sent them an email on 9-12-02 explaining how they were takening money from my account which I didn't aurthorize and as of yet I haven't received an answer.

Total DVD in Pyrmont, Ontario I have tried to call them and got no answer nor can I find them on the internet.
What make this one so bad is I don't even have a DVD player.

I wouldn't have caught it if I hadn't been trying to check my account to pay a bill.
My bank charges $25 for every returned check and $5 for every day that the account is over drawn. I have seven checks that I wrote to pay bills inculding rent so when you do the math you'll find that $175 for late fees, $5 a day for each day and for each check until the monies is placed in the bank and that is a grand total of $35 a day for the seven checks. Since we won't be able to replace the monies until this friday so that is another $315 not to mention that we still have to find the monies for the rent, gas, water, electric, phone, garbage, cable, and internet service.
I am so angry that I can spit, I am working with the bank to see if there is something that they can do to eliminate the late fees. So far I am waiting to hear how much or if they are going to wave the later fees.
I explained this GW in confidence, because I couldn't make it to the Ohio round up. I wasn't going to say anything here until I read JoanJ thread, and I couldn't believe that it was happening to her as well. I hope that I find out how they got my account number so I can prosecute their a-- to the letter of the law and I intend to put this information out on the net so that everyone can read it in hopes that it will help others from getting burnt by them.

I had my debit card number stolen twice within a year's time- in August of 2000, and in August of 2001. Right now, as I sit here typing this, my firewall is indicating that someone is trying to hack into my computer, and this has been going on all morning. Computer/internet crimes are going to continue growing in number, and it's important to know how to protect yourself.

If your bank won't make it right--immediately move your accounts to a bank that WILL. My bank was totally cooperative and helpful in refunding my money to my account AND getting me a new card. No questions asked, and that's how it SHOULD be.

You also shouldn't be too hopeful that you will find out who stole your CC number, or that they will be caught and prosecuted. I got the impression that the police could have cared less about my stolen credit card number. I did some online research and gave them a potential suspect name and a website registration. My card was being billed by an online billing service so the money had to be going somewhere and was being deposited in ~someone's~ name, right? Well, they came back a year later and told me that it was some Russian Organized Crime syndicate operating out of New Jersey and there was nothing they could do. Huh?

The second time I didn't even bother to report it. I just cancelled my old account and got a new card.

I was a little smarter about using it online though. I will occasionally use it on secure websites (which is still no guarantee). Most of the time, I find myself faxing, or calling in my credit card orders now. And sometimes I just plain old-fashioned snail mail my orders.

It's too bad criminals have to ruin something as convenient as online shopping, but until law enforcement is a little more committed to catching these guys, we'll all pay the price.

I did get a new card on the spot but the bank is doing an investigation. I did sign about three or four papers stating that I din't order from either of these companies and now I am waiting to hear from the bank to see if they will wave the return checks fees and over draft charges.

We no longer use credit, so we had to find a work-around for online purchases. What we did was open a second checking account and get a debit card for it. When we want to make an online purchase, we transfer just enough money into that account for the purchase; the rest of the time, the balance stays at around $1 or $2. That way, if someone gets the debit card info, there's nothing there for him to access. That account is also the one we have PayPal direct debit for online payments, so the near-zero balance helps protect us there.

GW this is more of a debit card than a credit but as you know not all store here in Ohio except debit cards. So mine could be used both ways but it all came out of my checking account and not from a credit card.
