Well, I talked it over with Trish this morning and we finally decided to not make a new forum, and instead propose that this project use an existing forum.

Trish suggested Mail Call, and I think that's an excellent forum for it. Sounds good?

The mail forum will be fine. If it catches on and continues we can always beg for a space and move him later. If this works like it should Flat Dave will be traveling for years to come!

That makes sense, since he'll be making his rounds by mail. :) Is there a way we could have some place with a list of links to all the threads concerning him? They'll get separated and spread across pages with all the thank-you's and such in that forum. That would still require people to be consistent in their threads - maybe making them all start with "Flat ?? in ______", though, yes?

If the latest member to receive him in the mail puts a link to his/her new thread in the previous one, as well as a link to the previous thread in the first post of the new thread, we can track back and forth.

What's the maximum amount of threads a search will yield at DG, anyway?

So who's starting him out?

I read about flat stanley in the links, but I still don't quite comprehend how it works. There's on paperdoll, right? Are we supposed to dress him, although not permanently, and take him around to the sites and take pictures? I like the idea, but I'm not committing until I know for sure what it's all about, and he wouldn't be able to come here until in the wintertime after we are moved and all the dust has settled. It would be nice if he could travel to every state though.

JoanJ, I like the idea about traveling to every state! That is a year already in the mail, if the one week time element mentioned elsewherer is followed... And a trip to Germany has been offered too!

Plus we have the mail time. So it would be more than a year for him/her or both to travel every state and overseas with his travel time. If there were two, a girl and a boy, they could go different routes and cover a lot more country in less time. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting older and a year goes by mighty fast, so that's not too long for me to track their journies.

I think two would be fun, and maybe they could meet up every so often!!!
