Ok, challenging idea, Dave

Dave,

During this last PDB contest, I added some plants and I didn't know all the particulars about it, like soil PH and such. I'd like to go back and research these plants and fill in all the blanks. For the plants I entered, it's easy to go to my member page and access what I've added from there.

BUT, what if I wanted to add soil PH information (or anything else for that matter) to plants in the PDB - for plants I didn't not add? Would it be possible to do a search for plants with missing information so that I could research it and try to add it? (i.e. search for all plants in genus Costus with missing info, or with specific missing info, like sun requirements or plant height).

Does that make any sense?

Thanks.

Dave has set up similar reports that I can run, like for missing genus, species, etc. And when we were converting from colors being a free-form text field to a standard list of colors, I could see the colors listed for each entry, open up the entry and check the correct boxes.

But I have NO idea how difficult it would be to set up a publicly-accessible report to display all the plants missing a particular "attribute" (e.g., height, soil pH, etc.) Good question - Dave will certainly be able to say whether it's do-able or not.

It's definitely do-able. I'll see what I can do.

Might be a possible next "contest". How many of a certain "blank" can be filled in. Or, how many blanks in all could be filled in. :)

Just an idea, of course.

smiln, it's a good idea. During the PDB challenge, notmartha suggested that we have a contest when it's cold outside, and more of us are indoors. So we may just have a "fill in the blanks" challenge/contest in January...
