Hi, Dave or Go_Vols
Could we add 'Exclude light during germination' & 'Surface sow, do not exclude light'?
PDB Propagation List
Big sigh here. Not because of the request, but because it reminds me that I promised Dave and myself that I'd write the expanded definitions of each propagation technique and get them loaded in Garden Terms, then linked within this list in the PDB.
WZ, to be honest, I'm loathe to add more to that (already long) list of techniques, so here's what I'm going to suggest: When I (you? we? hmmm???) write the propagation tehniques out and link over to them, the write-up can include explanations for why some plants need to germinate in darkness while others require light. THEN in the garden notes/comments section of a particular entry, it can be noted that this plant specifically requires darkness (or light, as the case may be) to germinate.
Unless of course, there's enough hue and cry to add these specific germination requirements to the list of techniques. In which case, we'll make room for a few more :)
Gotcha, Go_Vols. Too much to do, too little time. As a matter of fact, I've been adding propagation notes to my comments when I have some experience with the plant. My concern is that the comments get bumped down each time a new comment entry is made, so it may not be seen.
Yes, I think propagation techniques with a link would be great, but I can understand what a project that could be. I'd be happy to share any info I have for techniques for us Northern gardeners. Most gardeners would get a laugh to know I even start lettuce indoors!
I would love a propagation (especially notes on seed-germinating) link, especially for the Veggie section.
No, Weezin, I don't laugh at starting lettuce indoors; I start spinach indoors! That is the only way I can get it to sprout. Really.
I do laugh at a wholesale nursery that offers to send people lettuce seedlings mail-order, just $0.50 per plant! Yes, I know, some people would rather grow started seedlings for different reasons, but I can't begin to imagine how much it would cost me with my 200 lettuce plants. Almost all of mine are eaten as baby-leaf lettuce, but still, very expensive salad there.
LOL! Lupinelover, mail order lettuce starts! Those shameless nurseries! Oh, well, I guess it fills a need for someone.
