what happened

I posted a photo earlier today of Chocolate morning glory and the right photo was there earlier. Now it apears that a photo of a plant that Windsurfer posted has taken over. Now that is an invasive plant Wind.

Ooops, my bad. Jim, you posted your 'Chocolate' photo in this entry here: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/31429/ and when I saw the duplicate entry....I, uhh, well, I deleted it.

And I forgot that photo would show up in the PDB forum, and by not deleting the entry there, it would cause things to slide down the page. Sorry for the confusion.

Goodness, Go_vols, how do you keep track of it all?

Weezin, I check for new photos and entries at least three times a day - I go through the newsletter in the morning, then scan the PDB homepage and PDG forum page throughout the day; usually once more around 8 or 9 pm.

(Thanks to Dave, I also have a way I can see all the new plant entries that don't have photos or comments attached, as well as those that do.) Every new plant gets reviewed, and most photos and comments. For each new plant, I first check is to see if it's a duplicate. If it's not, then I check for:

a) family, genus, species, common name and cultivar names to be in place and properly spelled, then
b) any genus or species that need to be researched and added to Botanary to complete the entry

Sometimes I just *know* there's already an entry, because I've handled it somewhere along the line. That was the case with Jim's photo - I remembered seeing an entry for Ipomoea nil 'Chocolate' several months ago. I checked it out, discovered he had the photo posted there already, so I deleted the duplicate. (but forgot to delete PDB forum entry...)

My memory isn't always that good, though. So some of you (WZ included) are kind enough to send me things that need correcting. And to be honest, I could use more sets of eyes looking things over, so PLEASE don't hesitate to send me anything that looks out of place - no offense is taken; quite the opposite :)

You can email them to me or post them in the DG forum (just be sure to use a title that will SCREAM at me and include words like "PDB Error" and "Hey GV!" :)

Thanks, Go_Vols. I always feel a bit guilty sending you info on possible errors or duplications. I know that it is probably helpful in the longrun, but I wonder if it appears to be nit-picking. I had no idea you keep such close track of the PDB postings! That surely cuts down on errors. I suppose some duplications and errors were carried over from the old database entries before the new format, eh?

From now on, I'll just make the assumption that my info is welcome, and that you'll deal with it when you have time..thanks.

Don't feel guilty sending me things.

I'd much prefer when - schedule allowing - to handle errors as soon as they occur and/or are spotted. The things I tell myself "I'll get around to fixing that later" rarely get fixed :(

Yes, in my life, the squeaky wheel truly gets the grease. I have piles of papers that I am going to sort on a "rainy day" and it never seems to happen. That's particularly funny in a coastal Alaskan town where rain is the norm!

Please explain what I did wrong. I was only trying to upload a photo to an existing entry. I thought I was doing it wrong at the time but kept going in circles. That's bad for an old man like me. Worse that trying to walk a straight line. Jim

Awww, Jim, take heart. Your photo IS posted to the existing entry. I can't tell you for sure WHEN you posted it, but it's there.

Somehow today you also created a new entry for Chocolate Morning Glory, and posted the photo there, too. I deleted the entry and its duplicate photo.

All's well that ends well, right?
