Favorite Musical

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Trying to pinpoint a favorite musical is like naming a favorite book. Attending musicals is a favorite of mine, having seen many, several times.

Les Miserables has to be right up there on the charts. Every song, a song you find yourself singing over and over. Wouldn't it have been great to be at the opening of Les Mis? Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (I saw him in Toronto as Jean Valjean), Michael Ball (one of the purest voices ever) as Marius, and Patty Lapone as Fantine. The entire orginal cast will never be duplicated again. My opinion.

Any others?

How about Kathy Rigby doing Peter Pan. Flying out and above the audience. A real kid pleaser.

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

I've never been able to see one in person, only on tape, so from thatlimited perspective, I have to say The Wizard of Oz!

Oh Wingnut, my daughter's with you!
They showed it on TV every Christmas as she was growing up, and it was an essential for her. I think she's still got a tape somewhere that she drags out when she needs a quick fix LOL (She's 31 now!)

Jekyll and Hyde has to be considered because of the performance of Robert Cuccioli. A part requiring one person to fulfill the parts of Jekyll and also Hyde. Back and forth, back and forth as he is one character and then another. Singing, I don't know how many songs, with a voice that brings the audience to their feet.

Robert was recently in Pittsburgh to star in Kiss Me Kate, and stayed on to direct Jekyll and Hyde for the CLO.
