Gourds and Pumpkin forum!!

Crossville, TN

Dave, since so many of us have an interest in gourds (and the only thing I have been able to grow), would it be possible to have a forum for them. I had to do a search to find any info here...and then it seems to have been very scattered out into different forums....I would never know where to start looking for them...Veggies?...maybe. Vines? I think of that as Morning Glories. Looking for info on growing is one forum...and decorating them would be another....they could be classed in one, big, lovely, forum!! Thanks for considering it. Gourds really are lovely, and so deversified. I think that this would be a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow. I have seen so many gourds, that I couldn't begin to ID or think what to do with. Please, Dave, how about it??

Awww Dave, what do you think?? We have spent all this time corrupting Jo and trying to turn her into a gardener. Now she is out of her gourd! LOL Can you give it a try??

Come on Dave, lets do it.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I know last year there where all kinds of questions about how to harvest the seeds etc. Seems shoe or Dave answered most of them. You really have to search the forums to find answers so a forum for that might be a good idea.

maybe even incorporate the crafting of them there too, with pictures and all?

Gee, Dave - I'm thinking they've already met the "five member" requirement...

I think (if anybody cares) that it's a good idea as long as it gets used. The legume forum goes in spurts - sometimes it gets used, sometimes not...ditto for the tomatoes forum, and even the vegetable forum for that matter.

(Maybe I just have a soft spot for gourds this year since - like Roadrunner - it's one of the few things I can say have grown well in my veggie patch!)

and like the Geranium forum. good pictures just sitting there with few views.

Legume, Tomato, & Vegetable.
Gourds and Melons
Geraniniums & Alpine Gardening

Just some simple combinations that would free up space, and accomodate everyone!!

yep, tiG - I would love to see more of the Geranium photos make their way to the PDB - they might not get a lot more traffic, but bound to get SOME, judging by the activity that streams through there on a daily basis :)

I like GRC's suggestion...have it so each plant picture we put on DG, a place to check if we want to add it to the PDB...would be so easy...but would have to be sure only plants made it...not our grandchildrden....LOL Jo

Done :)

Dave, I'd like to see a pumpkin and gourd forum too. I was lucky this year to get 2 pumpkins on my vine, but I understand they don't pollinate like other veggies. I'd like to learn more about them because they really are fun.

OH WOW!! Thanks Dave...On to bigger and better gourds....Jo

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks Dave.............now I may really get into gourds, if I can find one large enough...

I was gonna add my "amen" to this thread but I see Dave has already given us the forum. COOL! I've never grown any of them but plan to so I can make some birdhouses. And maybe luffa for the shower, Isn't that a gourd? Thanks Dave.

How about combining Orchids and Geraniums???

Don't combine orchids with geraniums. They're not the same, and they're not kept under the same conditions. I have orchids, but haven't posted recently b/c mine are adjusting to their new home.

Awww, I shouldn't have started grousing about the under-used forums - I'm not suggesting any should be combined at this point. I think all the forums will eventually hit their own stride, and some are bound to fluctuate with the seasons.
