Hybridizing Forum?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

After all .... we do have a few very prominent hybridizers as memebers. It would be a forum for all the hybridizers of different plants to gather together. There's brugs, daylilies, hostas, passiflora ... ect., ect. Would anyone else be interested in this sorta thing?

oh, but what if they stay in that forum and don't come out and play with us peons??? LOL!

Great idea, poppysue! I would love to see a hybridizing forum! It does not need to be too academic, could be welcoming to hobbyists and other pollen daubers.

tiG, won't you come play with us in our new forum?

We could share information about what plants we are hybridizing, what plants are possible to cross-breed, show off photos of our seedlings, and maybe get some more people interested in trying some crosses, or even helping to grow out our extra seeds and seedlings!

but isn't that what we do now??? I certainly don't want to put a damper on it, poppy asked the breeders, just don't want to lose all of them to one forum (which could easily become one of the most popular if y'all are giving out seeds) LOL!!

tiG, you are right, this could be covered under each individual plant... I like the idea of a hybridizing forum though to gather people together who have a common interest in crossbreeding...

Seeds? You need SEEDS??? I will have some Pardancanda and hardy Hibiscus seeds needing growing out...

Hugs,

oh sweet man!! I will grow anything you want me to and you know it!!!

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Okay, tiG, it's a deal. Now, about your vote on the new forum...

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL!!!!! whatever you guys want!!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

tiG - I didn't mean for it to sound like that. I mean a place for us peons ask our questions and learn together. Pardancanda has the right idea. There's a lot of hybridizing discussion on the brug forum but there's a ton of other plants to play with too.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, if there is a new forum, I'll be there with bells on!!!

Yes, for example, there may be a few backyard breeders playing with hardy Hibiscus, who would be interested to know that Hibiscus moscheutos can be crossed with Hibiscus coccineus (dinner-plate hibiscus with Texas star Hibiscus), but that no one has ever successfully crossed a tropical Hibiscus (H. rosa-sinensis) with either of these. Count me in on this one! I do some amateur hybridizing with a few plants, and would love to be able to get some real professional's comments on some of my thoughts and successes and failures. Especially about some of the more obscure plants that don't have the well-known forum of their own, but are so much fun to play around with, like pulmonarias, heucheras, tiarellas, and especially with the real fun things to cross, annuals! But are y'all right: would I probably spend so much time there I would lose track of everything else. Hmmm. Nah. Well, maybe ;D But I will try to be good! LOL

I'd love to see a forum Completely devoted to hybridization. I have a hard time trying to garner enough information going from forum to forum. Just think it would help so many of us hybrid challanged folks to get a grasp on this. OMHO.

Yes, I think it's a great idea!

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

"eyes" you have a great point, this way all the information could be gathered into one forum, would be handy to have it all in one place as you say!

If this comes to pass, we could start off with everyone listing which plants they are interested in hybridizing. Some of us will find common interests, and make it easirer to share knowledge and perhaps also seeds and parent plants...

Okay, sounds like there is enough interest.

So, clarify for me: Is this a "Hybridizers Forum" or is it an "Amateur Hybridizers Forum"?

What, specifically, shall be the name and focus of the forum?

I think the idea started for the more experienced and then us babies can ask them questions. am I getting this right poppy and John? you could call it "Breeding Ground" LOL!!

Hybridzation Techniques would be nice. Cover's everything.

how about "Hybridzation Chat" ?

Hybridizing is probably the best name.
