thought i would update here since quite a few have asked how it is going. we are moving along slowly but steadily. we have the top of the camper ready to coolseal the leak if the rain ever stops. the refrigerator, hot plate, toaster overn, linoleum and glue, and towels and dish rags have all been secured thanks to many of you. I want you all to know that it really done my uncle good to know that someone cared to help. I felt kinda bad asking for the help but when many of you offered and asked for the list I felt it was an answer from heaven on lhow i would pull this off.
below is a list of what is still needed if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I fear that i am appearing to be a leech asking for this help but the help is truley needed.
a couple place settings of dishes......aimee
a glass or two.......aimee
wash rags.......smilin32
7 curtain rods ........already in camper, i had overlooked them
7 sets of curtains size 24" by 24" or so.....pebbles
I had planned to make the curtains but my sewing machine is on the bleek and no funds for now to fix it.
a few pots and frying pan
small amount of silverwear and utensils.......aimee
a couple of towel racks (hangers)
toliet paper holder
paper towel holder
some of you sent me checks toward getting the materials. Some sent $5 and then apologized that it wasn't more. None of you should feel that way. It has all added up and let us get it fixed for him. the camper was in real bad shape inside. Outside it looks ok. I want you all to know that we all appreciate all of your help and prayers. God Bless You All! Janet

update on uncle james and his camper
Janet, I can get the silverware and maybe some pots..not sure. There are a bunch of things in storage at our church, probably for a yard sale or something. I'll ask tonight and see if I can go through all of it.
When you say, "wash rags" are you talking about dish cloths?
no, bath cloths. thanks smilin so much for all your help.
may god bless you for your kindness.
Jamet, I can send some dishes, glasses, cups, and a few odds and ends. If I send stuff you can't use, just put it into a garage sale and raise funds for something else. I will work on a box this weekend and hope to get it out Tuesday.
Ok, Janet...road block...
The church office said that they didn't know where the stuff in storage came from and they'd have to track down the owners first. No luck, there. I checked out a flea market yesterday and couldn't find any silverware worth buying. I'm not giving up, though. :)
I have bath cloths and hand towels to spare. Those are a definate. I can also take care of extra kitchen utensils.
I'm on a mission now. :)
Janet, I can sew some curtains....Let me see what kind of fabric I have...plain simple typle curtains or what??
when you say 7 sets - is that a total of 14? 24x24??
wow guys I really appreciate this. My nerves are starting to run short so I really need to get him into his camper as soon as possible. I am trying to be patient but it is getting hard.
aimee thats great and thanks so much for your help.
smilin you have helped so much already that i could never say thankyou enough. please don't overdoo yourself here but know i really appreciate this. smilin the bath cloths and hand towels would be good.
pebbles, yes I need 14 panels 24 x 24 inches. they do not have to be anything fancy. we are painting the walls white so any color will go. his bedspread is maroon with pink roses. it was a gift from my aunt margaret , his sister, before she died. something to match this would be fine. 4 hemmed sides with a place for the rod is ok too. nothing to hard on you. he is so excited.

Janet,
You are in my prayers almost every day and I truly mean that. I pray for you, your husband and your uncle. I know this is hard on you, and I hope that all of us can work together to make it easier. I wish more people would offer some help. Even if you can't make something or send something, a few bucks would go a long way, especially if everyone helps out.
I know I have odds and ends of stainless flatware scattered around. After all, when you have seven kids, and they move in and out, sometimes bringing friends' things, it accumulates over the years. So I will send what I have, and you use it as you see fit. It might be more of what someone else has sent, once I get started, and only you can know if it's useful. I am so happy to be involved in your project!
Ok, I'm not having any luck on flatware, so I'll let Aimee have that one since she has some.
I have some kitchen utensils, a couple of matching placemats, a coffee cup warmer (neat as it plugs in and keeps coffee or tea warm - has a small hot plate) and the bath cloths/hand towels and something else I can't remember right now. I'm putting it all in a box and hope to send it tomorrow or the day after. This is kind of fun. Made me clean out my utensil drawers at least. :)
Do you need odds and ends of utensils? I know I have a few extras. I need to write a list to keep up with what you said was taken care of already, because when I start digging later this evening, I will be in discard mode. Or maybe I should make a list of what needs a home and see if you can use it. It really feels sort of like when the kids were moving in and out and back in and out.
I have a box ready to go. I'll try to get it in the mail tomorrow.
you guy are great. we got the camper top kool seal;ed yesterday. the rain finally stopped long enoungh to get it donw. it seems to be taking forever to get this done but the 3 of us can't move very fast. all that is left is replsace some paneling on the ceiling and run a few receptacles and paint and lay the rug and it is ready. so hopefully we are aiming for the first of october. i will definitely post pics when it is thru. thank you all so much.
Just to let youknow, I'm not dragging my feet (well...a little) I have gone thru the fabric and found some cool ones, I even found some maroon - enough for two panels.
Will be working on them this week in the evenings.
i really appreciate this pebbles. more than you will ever know
Same here, Pebble! I thought I would just grab a few plates and such and pack them up, send them to Uncle James and that would be it. But I forgot how much stuff I had stacked in the path to kitchen stuff, in anticipation of the makeover project that still isn't complete and may never be. Anyway, I finally got to enough of them to realize those heavy plates and bowls were not the thing to mail. Some didn't match, some were chipped, and in general it was okay for me to keep as extras, but not practical to send. So I ended up eliminating a lot of stuff I originally thought would be great. Found enough to fill a box, with a little treat tucked in at the last minute, and it's sitting in the kitchen ready to be mailed tomorrow, if I get my lazy bones to the post office in Austin early enough. There is a good amount of stainless flatware, some glasses and mugs, plates and a platter in plastic. I sent some plastic reusable/disposable bowls to tide him over, because bowls never seem to survive to become extra around here. If the little measuring saucepan isn't useful, plant something in it. I thought it might be good for heating small amounts when it's just one person. I didn't have any extra utensils in good enough condition to send, so someone else might want to pitch in to send those. I do hope he can use these things, at least until he gets whatever he prefers.
aimee, you are too much. thank you for all your work and concern. smilin32 sent enough utensils to last him a while. I am so , we are so lucky to have friends like you all. thanks again.
Tonite is the night I am going to sit down and sew....
Looking forward to getting them done and mailed out, it's been weighing heavily on my mind. sorry it has taken me so long....
not a p[roblem. we hope that we will have him in the camper by october 1st. but not promising it.
I thought I would give another update. We are just about ready to paint the camper. just two more light receptacles and l piece of paneling. we are getting close. just as soon as it is finished i will post some pics.
Won't it be nice to have all of this done? Janet, I hope some more folks step up and help out. Even a $5 donation would go a long way if a few people would just take a moment to slip one in an envelope and mail it out.
Carla you are right about being glad this is done. we are getting close. we still have toget a few things for the camper like glue for the floor tile and a kitchen faucet. But slowly and surely we are getting there. All the help from my friends here has been a blessing from heaven. We could not be this close to finish with out it. Thank you all for your help.
I saw that you received a package from Aimee. That must be such a welcome treat. I'm sure it will just take you a few steps closer to completion. Still hoping some more folks will step up and fill in the gap here. We're practically family, even though we've never met, and I'd like to see you get some additional help. With both you and your husband disabled, I know it's tough. I'll continue to keep you and your family in my prayers.
thanks smilin. we bought all the boxes, receptacles, and light switches today. the wiring is almost done. we had to put in a new breaker box and wiring because the camper is so old. but we are getting there. aimee sent silverwear, pots, plates, bowls, cups, glasses, and i am probably forgetting something here. thanks again aimee it was such a help. with pebbles doing the curtains this makes us a litttle closer. We still have to buy the glue for the tile. plumbong supplies for the bathroom facilities, a back door lock, kidtchen faucet, and i know i am leaving something out here. all of you who have helped us will never be forgotten. it just blows my uncles mind that when his own flesh and blood wound not help that people who did not know him would. fi told him that all of you are more like family than some of my family. i love you all dearly.
well another snag. we had to rip out most of the walls because we found some wires connected to nothing. i am so thankful we found them though becausae we could of had a fire in it and some may have gotten hurt. just about ready to putthe walls back up and start painting. we have a light pink tile we are putting in and yesterday i got a gallon of really good paint at lowes on clearance for $5 gpt yjr gsllon. it is a light ppink too. so i think it will look real good.
Good deal, Janet.
Did you end up getting all the pots and pans you needed?
yes. he has plenty of those now. we got or i shoule say dh got his car running today. james is beside himself. it hadn't ran inover a year. we got the parts free and now he's on the road again.
Janet, that is wonderful! I know from past experience ho hard it is to have a car and not be able to run it! It sounds like you have things under control again. I am afraid I missed most of the thread earlier about the trailer but it sounds as if the work is progressing there as well. Is there anything you still need?
Janet you are making great progess. It's been a long haul but you are getting there!!
Is he going to have a housewarming party? :)
yes gardenwife we are. he has one brother that lives about 45 miles away and when we get the camper finished we are going to have a nice get together and little party for him. he does not know this yetr. i plan to surprise him.
Janet,
You're an angel.
Janet, finally got the curtains done - all 14 of them... will send them to you tomorrow :)
Pebble,
You're an angel.
thanks so much pebbles. you all are angels!
