Does anyone ever go into your main page and go through all your watched threads and mark the old ones unwatch? I have been doing this periodically, but it takes so long to do. I just checked and I'm back up to 391 threads watched again.
Do you do this, or just leave them all as watched once you choose that?
Unwatch your threads?
Normally, when I think I've read everything important on a thread, whether I've posted on it or not, I just go back to the top and click on "Stop Watching....".
When I think I have too many, I just take some time out and clear them.
With such a number as 391 !!! WOW, I would take a wee bit of time each time I visit DG and remove about 20 or 30, that way the numbers come down to a figure you can work with.
All the best
Wintermoor
Yes Wintermoor, is it Barry?, it is a time consuming job.
I feel that I have to do it though. Does it take up space on the DG server, or is there any reason we should do that to clean up things? That's what I've been thinking. Dave? Trish? Go_Vols? Should we do that or doesn't it matter how many threads we are watching?
!!! Joan I just went and looked and I am watching 441 !! That's alot isn't it??!! It would take me days to unwatch them if I cleared some of them off!! Too bad that it takes so long to clear them off. Maybe there is a way Dave could put us a "unwatch" button to click on out beside each one of the post on our list. Or maybe like a box out beside them so we can click it to check it and then be able to click on another button to delete the ones we checked. Just a thought anyways! I too wondered if it took up space?
LOL Just added this one to my watch list...so make that 442!

LOL Mollybee, we will have to spend a Saturday night unwatching the dead threads. Is it a date? I feel so guilty when I look at the amount of threads I'm watching. Like I'm hogging space and I don't want to do that!
LOL It's a date!! I'm sure I will be up to the wee hours of the morning unwatching mine! LOL I know what you mean about hogging all the space too, makes ya wonder how many others are watching this many?!
I hope Dave or Trish or go vols comes by here and sees this. was thinking of linking this over to Dave's Garden thread so he'd for sure see it then.
I thought about putting it on Dave's Garden forum in the first place, but if it's not a problem, I don't want to bring one up.
Dates! I love Dates! The Saturday after this coming one, 'kay? I have an open house to go to this coming Sat. It will take us a bit of time. Do you have MSN messenger? We can compare notes. I'm joanjurgens@hotmail.com.
I just went over and was trying to unwatch some of my really old ones, and I got soo caught up in re reading all them that I had to make myself quit! LOL
So ya wanna do it next Saturday 9-7? Sounds good to me! I do have MSN and I am Mollybee on there too. Talk to ya then!!
Watch all the threads you want. You can watch thousands at a time, if you wish (I do...). The thread watcher is there as a convenience to the members, and I don't want you to think it's a liability for me. I'm happy to see people enjoy the feature! Use it all you want. Go crazy with watching threads. Watch 'em all! :-)
On a more serious note: I like to keep even old threads watched because I've seen several circumstances where someone will add to a thread that died over a year ago. If I'm watching that thread, it immediately comes up for me. And that's the single best reason to watch a thread: the system keeps an eye on it for you, and informs you when your thread has been updated.
dave
Thanks Dave, I never thought about it that way. So if someone new is going over old threads, nobody might reply? Nope, don't like that either.
Mollybee, I think we need to watch more threads! We can still have a date though. I'll try to add you to my MSN messenger.
Right, suppose a newbie digs up and replies to an old thread that you were originally a part of. If you weren't "watching" that thread, you wouldn't automatically be notified of it, and you might miss the response. As a result, the newbie might think nobody wants to talk to them! Harumph!
Yes, be liberal in your thread watching.
dave
Dave, thank you so much for putting this in perspective for me/us. If it's not a problem for you or DG, I will continue to watch every thread I mark that way.
Man, I love this site!
Whew, glad to hear this, I was beginning to wonder if I was being out of line by not "un-watching" threads. (I do tend to un-watch some from time to time, when they seem to hit a dead end.) However, I like seeing an old thread pop up. I need the memory jog!
As for finding out about them, I haven't the foggiest idea how many I'm watching...will have to check it out sometime.
Well, I'll tell you... if there's something that I believe harms the site, I prevent it from occurring. In general (except in the case of bugs and such) if you're allowed to do it, then do it with a free conscience. I'm a pretty good programmer and I don't allow the users to do -anything- that harms the site.
So, if a feature is available to me, use it! Make that journal as big as you can. Post 1,000 pictures to the plants database, and watch every single thread that comes up, if it pleases you. :)
dave
Yippeee!! That means I don't have to go thru all that unwatching process! I actually got caught up in a few old threads while trying to rid myself of them! Just goes to show me that I was watching them for a good reason huh? LOL
Thanks Dave Glad to hear it!!
Joan, yep it's still a date!! we don't have to work though we can just chit chat! I will add you to my list soon!
Shoe, just for giggles, go to your member page and click on 'view the threads you are watching'. On the top, it will give you a number. Don't let it freak you out though, as Dave has now told us that it's okay. LOL!
I'd been kinda' wondering about this, Joan, so thank you for bringing it up ~ now I don't have to wonder. :) And guess what my "watched threads" page tells me?!
You are watching 1116 threads.
Egads!! That's a lot of watching!
Yikes Wingnut! I'm glad we don't have to unwatch them, or it would take you a month! LOL!
No kidding!! I'm glad, too! LOLOL! I was pretty surprised when I saw that total!!!
