I went out yesterday to fine my gorgeous 'Missouri Marble' all stems
done in by 3 overfed hornworms )))o; one just polishing off a nice opening bud.
So I dug and into a pot and into the greenhouse.
Hoping to bring it back ..

Oh Terry what a shame!! It will come back I'm sure. Good thing you spotted it before they destroyed the entire plant.

I LOVE YOU, Abutilon!!! I'm trying sooo hard to decide which cannas to edge behind the pond garden with, but joydie kept me up too late last night...hehehe!! Oh save me a few of those India Rubber Vine/Allamanda seeds. I have to try those for sure.

Meiyu, I would have gone back to bed sooner, but you kept posting again...lol...I couldn't be rude and go to bed now and leave you up all by yourself. Eyes I was well rested. I slept from 8 p.m. or until Meiyu started knocking on her keyboard waking me up with all that typing noise...hahaha.
I got to sleep in this morning so I feel great!

I think its only a Federal Crime if you pinch seeds from a Botanical Garden. I'm checking with my lawyer friend to see what the charges are for Conspiracy to Plot...lol. But in my case I'm going to warn you, I'm pleading Rapid Onset Senility. LOLO. Now if you happen to brush by anything else and a branch or two just happens to fall off and you bend over and say,
"My goodness, what is this?"....lol.

Ok go take your nap so you can be up again at 3 a.m. in the morning after your nightly round of banging into plants and picking up the broken branches...hahaha.

hahaha...the walk to the mailbox woke me up again. even collected a bunch of seeds from plants i don't know the names of yet. no, joydie, not along the way...these were actually from my own front yard! i have to brave biking over to the red cannas when peter gets home to knock on the door...still haven't gotten that picture of the mamas yet. my camera won't work very well at 3 am. their neighbor, i happened to notice, has a beautiful deep dark purple flower blooming by the street, but it's bulb...hmmmmm!! maybe, just maybe, if i very strategically toss a juicy rib bone in the center of the mother, just before my neighbor's dog takes his walk, he'll pounce into the center of the plants, and tear it up enough for a baby to come loose, then i can just happen to bicycle by moments later, pick it up, go show the neighbor what the nasty little dog has done, and in the middle of all the confusion, stick the baby in my pocket!!! yeah...heh-heh...[profanity removed], i'm good!

You need to borrow my sharpeners *grin*?? You guys are a riot a minute!! My sides are splitting!!

Answered you in the seed post last night, but then had to get some zzz's ..I was past overtime.
I get up way too early, stay up way too late, and work way too hard (so I am told). LOL

You can get one of these small triangular files very inexpensively in the hardware
section. Pencil size and smaller. They work very well for canna seeds and others that require filing (like morning glories).

Okay, got to get to work. Be back to Dave's tonight.

And you just reminded me that I need to get some sleep this afternoon if I'm gonna be able to drive out tonight...what am I gonna do without you guys AND my flowers for 3 whole days???? Hi Goils!!! I missed you!!! I am just now beginning to feel human again, after the long trip. I took my snip and run supplies for nothing, though...ain't nuttin' on the highway through the twighlight zone!!! No gas stations, no restrooms, no bushes!!! I can't imagine why Dorothy wanted to click her heels to get back to Kansas..wow...it was another world driving through that state. I kept wondering what they do when they get home from the 4 hour trip to the local grocery store and realize they forgot milk?

I saw the sign to eyes' city...the boys were sleeping and I was tempted!! Hahaha!! Eyes, you didn't call me Saturday morning!!! The closest I got to your house was Gainsville, I believe. That's okay, though, cuz Peter said we can go to your round up thingy, so we will meet soon enough. Does the no alcohol thing mean you can't give any to the flowers, or you can't have any at all? hahaha...I may have to wave at you from the gate!!! hahaha!! I will have to make my arrangements later, I can't seem to get caught up on anything around here, cuz Dave's keeps calling me back to play everytime I walk by the computer.

Oh by the way I cut back my Mums that flowered in the spring and they are putting out lots of new growth and will probably flower again for Thanksgiving. I like the little pots lined up along the front steps to the porch. Gives it a nice look.

Meiyu congrats on the seed germination. By the end of a year on davesgarden there won't be anything that you won't have success with propagating...lol..If you want flowers earlier give those babies lots of fertilizer...10-52-10. I had hugeeeeeeeee plants and big lush flowers with the fertilizer and they multiplied quickly in less than a year. Just think how many trades of cannas you can make on this forum and start a nice collection!! not to mention how much money you will save not buying a tuber which means more money to spend on "Oh I just gotta have this one or I won't be able to rest at night-plants"..lol

I bet we on the gardens/computers are really hurting the nursery business! I know I've saved lots of money, when I think of what they charge for postage/packaging, wow!

now my only problem is how am i gonna get a rainbow plumeria??? my 'surrogate' daughter is in hawaii on the big island right now, and she says it's very hard to get, and if anyone knows she's bringing it home, it'll be a real hassle because it's so rare...it's a definite, 'i gotta have it, or i won't sleep at night' plant!!! joydie1, what fertilizer has 10-52-10? i use superbloom on mine, but i don't think the middle number's that high? can you think of anything else good that gail can smuggle home?

Get Gail to mail it to you rather than bring it home. Miracle Grow Super Bloom is what I used. I know you can get it anywhere in Texas.

oh, okay...i'll call her now. i just bought that miracle grow (it's called bloom-buster?), and fed it to the girls this evening!!!

Does anyone know if Canna's grow in Missouri?

I hear everyone has to dig them up?

I grew some in my manure filled garden and the seeds were hugh and healthy.

Then when I dug them up let them freeze, so I don't want to have to dig all those up again if I grow some more if I don't have to.
