We're at the halfway point.

...of August AND the 2nd annual PDB challenge. In case you missed it, here's the lowdown: http://davesgarden.com/s/306985.html

I honestly can't tell you anything about who's ahead because I don't know.

What I do know is that we've added more than 800 photos since 7/31!!! (And we need about 550 more to put as at the 7,500 mark...that seems like a lot but it was only a short time back that we had fewer than 1,000 photos in there :)

The number of plant ratings is still short of the goal....hint, hint. (C'mon ya'll - EVERYBODY has an opinion on at least one plant, right? The plant you love, or the one you love to hate? And where else are you going to get a chance to win a neat DG prize while giving your two-cents' worth?)

Thanks to all of you who have been working hard on adding photos, comments, new plants, and all those little details that make the PDB so special and useful. I see a lot of familiar names each morning when I peruse the newsletter - many of you who pulled out the stops last year are at it again, and you have a big thanks from me for your efforts!

And lately we seem to have picked up some new contributors who aren't (yet) subscribers - I hope they're reading this so they know we appreciate their work, too!

Given the pace we've been seeing new items pouring in, we will hopefully meet our goal, but it'll be a tight squeeze. It *could* be a "slam dunk" if everybody pitches in just a few minutes of their time and experience :)

I agree with vols....let's all rate a plant. It's not hard...just share with the world how your experience has been with something in the database.Even if someone has already put a comment in on the variety you were intending to rate...go ahead....it's the combined experiences that make the PDB unique to the web.

idea!!! maybe do this in the winter-im not as busy

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Not a bad idea - perhaps we'll run a slightly different challenge in January. Although I daresay some of our members are busy no matter what time of year it is; in the winter, there's the tending to the greenhouse (for some of us), seed ordering, quickly followed by seed starting, pruning, etc. (not to mention all those non-gardening activities ;0)

Yes, I have personally found that in the summer, I'm loaded down with pictures (which I love to add to the database) and then, in the winter, I don't have the opportunity to take photos so I spend my break-time writing comments about plants.

I think a little challenge specifically for comments in the winter is a fantastic idea!
