When I right-clicked on the pictures and downloaded them to my desktop (to open in Irfanview and doubltcheck the dpi) that's where I got those numbers.
The code says to resize them to appear at 100 pixels, but the original files that are being downloaded then resized for view are big. Does that makes sense? I'm not sure how to better explain it.
Input?
Come on over garden and take a look with me at my house. I am confused also, on the link to our 'Works of Art' I have 4 pics that right clicked say they are about 100 pixels and that page shows it will load on 28k in 200 secs. But, when I do the pics the exact same way on the garden page, the pic properties show they are 100 pixels or less, however with just those 2 or 3 pics it says the page will take over 300 secs. to load on 28k. I got disgusted with trying yesterday, so just made the pics on the garden page links. Will have to think harder on it I guess. I so appreciate all your help.
It sounds like you just need to create smaller images of those two pictures and copy them over the ones you have in the FrontPage directories now. Then that page will still pull from them to make your images, but it will be pulling from much smaller originals to begin with.
I think you are right, I believe I'll just go to the folder they are in and delete them all and start over as I noticed that the most recent (rose sharon, parrot garden, & dahlia) all come up huge. I have deleted and reentered them so many times, perhaps the program is mixed up LOL! Figured when in doubt, just start over. Thanks for all your help.
Do you happen to have the answer about DG and if you click from my Favorites on my site to the DG does it go to the main DG page or to "Welcome Home Haighr"?
It goes to the main page, which in your case will say "Welcome Home, Haighr" and in mine says "Welcome Home, Gardenwife". To someone not logged in already, it will show the initial DG welcome page. Otherwise, the cookie Dave saves on your computer makes the page "remember" the last user to login at the site and that's what you'll see when you click the link. :)
Oh, thanks gardenwife, that helps a lot, -
Now get ready, I added my voice to the Home page "Hello, Welcome to our world", only thing is it plays everytime you go to the home page LOL, I am already sick of myself and voice!
Let me know if it's a bit too much
It's a good level, Candee. Might freak some people out if they're not expecting it, LOL. I went to a site once which had a computer-enhanced, scary voice saying "are you receiving me?" I had the lights low and it was late at night. My volume control was up fairly loud. It scared the bejeebers out of me! :D
Oh man, that even sounds scary, good idea around Halloween though LOL!
I deleted those pics last night and tried again, they looked okay on the preview. I did them the same as on other pages, still haven't figured out what the difference is, but hope it works this time.
haighr, love your wood art, especially the southwest. Agree though, that the vocals get tiresome with each return to the homepage. All in all, the site is coming along very nicely, and I really like your Masterpieces!!!
Thanks pardan, I think I'll move the vocal to the family page instead of the home page. I never liked my voice much and it is getting on my nerves, I am excited about the prospects for sound on the pages in other formats so was happy that I could get it to work!
You could put it in as a link people could click on if they want to hear your greeting. Our church's website had that at one point - we need to see how to get it back on there. I can't give you the particulars on how to insert it, but I know it can be done in FrontPage because that's what the church's website was done with. Howie's redone it now, but I might be able to find the original CD backup we did of the old version and see how it was done.
Any FrontPage gurus out here?
Thanks garden, I know how to do it. That was my thought yesterday, when I really got sick of hearing it. Then my daughter called and she was sick of it too LOL! I'll just make it a link somewhere linked to something like "Welcome"! Thanks again for all your help. Howie's pages look great, too bad we're not closer and could really collaborate and get real fancy!!!
Now I am really baffled. I completely deleted the pics on the garden page I even deleted them from the image folder and started again. I did all 4 at the same time; but, when I just checked the floral arrangement comes up fine, but the darn dahlia, parrots and jupiter's beard files are still 1100 pixels. I think I'll resort to using different photos for those links, as I have no idea why they won't downsize!
I am a web designer and graphic artist and also use Front Page Exclusively as my editor (used to write everything from scratch...THANK GOODNESS for Front Page). Would be happy to help in any way, layout, custom graphics...or whatever you need....just let me know.
Thanks so much arty, I have set up several pages so far. For some reason, the pictures on the main page of gardens, aren't downsized. I insert the photo, downsize the pixels and then make them thumbnails. I save them and when I look at the properties in frontpage they are fine, as soon as I upload and check them online, again they are 1600 pixels or so.
Now, what I wanted to do was like the page for "Works of Art' - show a pic of each category (without a link to the pic) and they came out fine, but for some reason three of the 4 photos on the garden page will not change in size!
Any ideas? I have gone in and deleted the pics from the image folder and started over twice on those three pics and still doing the same thing of not downsizing.
