Life changes ahead!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

There have been some major changes for us here and I will be moving in a few weeks. We will be renting a tiny apartment with NO YARD! It will be temporary but I will have to leave my plants behind except for a few plants that will fit onto a 3 ft by 6 ft. balcony. I fear I was feeling pretty sorry for myself until I sat down today and had a long talk with myself and counted my many blessings.

I realized that although I will be leaving a lot behind I have been blessed with good friends who have helped us find a place and volunteered to help us make the move.

Blessings are often hard to recognize but by making this move we should be able to buy a place in about a year with the money we save and that to quote a not so popular tv personality "Is a Good Thing"

Although my work on this place was rewarded by a 30 day notice that it was sold out from under us it taught me a lot about gardening and led me to find help and information on the internet which led me to DG and some wonderful people here so for that blessing I too am thankful.

This also will mean that Bob will have less stress about maintaining the property while he is mending and hopefully will be able to return to work much sooner.

I have a wonderful family and many friends that have all been great through all our recent troubles.

So for those friends here at DG I just want you to know that although the situation here is temporarily unsettled and I have not been posting or keeping up with all of you as I would like, I am thinking of you often and once settled again I will be back and as ornery as ever. In the meantime I will continue to pop in every now and then to make sure you do not forget me.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Aw Zany, you have such a good attitude about this. I'm so proud of you. I wish I lived in California with my 5 acres. We'd move all your plants into a temporary storage place until you were ready to take them back.

Hugs,
Joan

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Zany, your news is both great and very sad! I am glad you are making changes that will allow you to own your own home but I am so sorry that you have to leave all your lovely flowers and hard work behind. You know that you have friends here that will help you start over when you are ready. :) It is good that your husband will have less work and more time to recuperate. You have surely been missed here and you will stay in my thoughts.
Hugs,
Michele

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, Zany, I doubt we can forget you, LOL. We can relate to those sudden moves - we had our rent raised by $75/mo all at once and failure to sign the lease within 30 days constituted our notice we wanted to move. We were scurryin', too. Sorry you have to leave your garden behind - but better things are bound to be around the corner. Your generosity and good humor will not go unrewarded. :) Maybe when you're settled into your new digs you can hang out here in the virtual garden a little more. We'd love to see more of ya!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Zany... I can sympathize, and wish you Luck! (Just don't stay away long from us here... )

I have agonized over selling my own home or not. Really need a larger house. However, I have put so much into the gardens that I cry just at the thought of leaving. Reluctantly, I am beginning to see that it might just be a wonderful opportunity to start again with a fresh look. I spend so much time now moving things around... either planted too close or things that don't do well in that spot. Plus, with all I am learning @ DG, I might end up with a much nicer garden. You, too!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Zany, I'm sure no one here can ever forget you and we won't. I wish you all the luck in the world with your move and your new home. You know when you're ready to start a new garden that plants will not be a problem to get.I'm sure everyone here will be more than happy to help you get started on a brand new garden.

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

That's a shame, Zany.

I've enjoyed your humour in the past, and will enjoy it again in the future.

It's good that your man can recuperate to full health, and hopefully by that time you'll both have enough gold coins to get your own wee place with a garden.

Good luck to you, and your family.

We'll chat again soon.

All the best, Zany

Reading between the lines my dear friend, I know this has been a hard time for you. You are a gutsy lady and a great example to us all. Nothing can keep a good woman down and you will bounce back - of that I have no doubt and when you do start a new garden there will never be a shortage of plants to fill your new space or the love that we all send to you and your dear husband. I'll call you!! ((((Zany)))

I understand how you feel about leaving all your plants but not to worry, as soon as you get your new house I know that a lot of your friends here will help you rebuild your flower garden. I for one will give you any of the plants that I have and will also buy you a few as a house warming present. Please take good care of yourself and family. Will you look at that spirit shining through! Oh, girl! Nothing can get you down for good, huh? Bless your heart! Add me to the list of people who will send you plants to fill your new garden once you get settled and can have another one. AND the list of people who wish you well and will be here when you get back on. We could never forget you, girl ~ only miss you.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks for all your kind words of support. I started packing today and have already filled the back of the truck with things for the local Salvation army and Bless the Beasts thrift shops. We are going to store most of my furniture that will not fit into the apartment and a lot of the odds and ends and brica brac are going to charities. In fact except for a couple of garden books my entire library is going to go. Being a pack rat is over and I am actually starting to enjoy getting rid of things! We are even giving away the 3 cords of firewood we had just put into the shed for this winter since we will not be able to use it and I refuse to let this landlord profit from it.

Well, break time is over so it is back to sifting and sorting for me. I'll check in on all of you again soon. May your gardens grow and prosper cause once I am able to garden again I will take all of you up on those kind offers!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Zany good luck and you are truly a friend and I hope the move is a short one. Remember the old saying when God shuts a door He opens a window. Hope the window is open and it won't be long until you are posting and wanting plants for your new place. We love you sis. Jim

(Zone 5a)

That's the spirit, keep you chin up. I agree with Jim, God will make a way.

Zany....I'll be thinking of you...and missing your charm and wit....hurry back! Jo

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Zany: I know it must be tough leaving your little green things behind, but perhaps the next residents will love plants as much as you do, and when you find a good spot yourself, the same will be waiting for you. I live far away, but include me on the list for seed, plants, whatever when the time comes that you can begin your next garden.

I'm looking forward to the time when you will be settled into your little apartment and back at the keys. Summer is winding down here, and I'm about ready to make mud pies or just trade poems again! Keep in touch when you can.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Zany, Your attitude is wonderful. You are really turning this situation around for you.
good luck to you, I will be thinking about you.

Good luck Zany and we'll all be wait'n for your return here'

Circleville, OH(Zone 8b)

Zany

I sure know where you are coming from, When I decided to leave Chris I walked away from my garden as well.

But with the love and friendship I have here on Dave's everyone came to the rescue.

I now live in a very small Trailer with a very small yard, But came back from Tennessee with a truck load of plants from the Roundup.

It is hard to walk away from things you out your heart into, It will be alright and one day you'll have a garden again.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
