Yesterday while putzing in the yard I looked over at the garbage can..."Oh my!!" I said. dh wanted to know what oh my. There was a snake under 12 inches long that had just dined. dh said "@#$%^$$#@# probably ate my toad!!" (poor toads really have to run for their lives around here) I'm watching the snake while he gets a hook to send it to the 'back 40'. Now the snake is not a happy camper and not moving very fast having just eaten when all of a sudden it regurgitates...you guessed it..dh's toad!! Snake heads into the shed and toad starts gasping for air. After about a half an hour it finally managed to hop away feeling,I'm sure, just like Jonah. Don't know what the snake was..at first I thought rat,but after looking in my book it might have been a pigmy rattler..in any case it's boots and gloves next trip to the shed. Sorry the creepy crawler missed out on lunch,but happy that Mr.Toad surrived.

What a story, Ginger! LOLOLOL! Thanks for sharing. Are pigmy rattlers poisonous to humans?

Yes,pigmy rattlers are poisonous. I just did a web search and found that in Florida no one has died from their bite. Still not sure if it was a pigmy..next time (if there is a next time) I'll pay closer attention to markings etc. instead of just being fascinated. LOL We did have another snake eat a toad,but it didn't regurgitate in spite of me tossing it out to the back...also took me awhile to find it after it slithered for cover in the ivy on the patio. Pretty sure that one was a hognose also called puff adder.

Once I was sweeping off the carport and was so bored until I looked down at this rope on my broom, I mean Pigmy Rattler. The broom became a javelin and I an Olympic runner in the other direction. I think the broom is still where it landed. (I have since moved north)
