Dave: Error on Tropicals in Plants db

Palmyra, VA(Zone 7a)

Dave,
I'm trying to load up picture of passion vines for the database, but there is not Vines category. I tried to include them in Tropicals but received error when I clicked on the link.

Can you add Vines to your list of options?

I fixed the tropicals category. I've had discussions with others about the vines before.

Is a vines category really needed, or should vines be placed under shrubs or perennials? I'll go with whatever you experts say. :)

Well, I'll weigh in here, although I count myself far from expert level. Plus, I'm going to remain neutral: I can go either way, now that you've put a search tool on the database (many, many thanks for that one.)

If you choose to lump them in with shrubs, we should rename the category "shrubs and vines", so folks will know where to browse for them.

I'd just like to tell you that over here, we only refer to Grapes as vines. What you call vines, we call Climbers. And, yes, we do normally categorise them separately from Shrubs or Perennials. I see that that presents you with another problem, but the rest of us can probably accept the US name, as it's a US site - we're used to that on the web!

Vols had suggested changing the "Shrubs" category to "Shrubs and Vines" some time ago, and I gave it a lot of thought, but never acted on it.

I'm leaning toward this approach. Can I get a second on that? All for? And against?

Dave this is the question I had about my entry for Akebia - to me its a climber, a vine. I quite like the idea of a separate category so I second the motion for Shrubs and Vines :-)

Okay, here was my rationale for requesting that we change the name to "shrubs and vines". At that time, we didn't have a search engine on the plants database. My suggestion was intended to:

a) find a home for vines (climbers) so folks could find them; while
b) minimizing the number of different places they might have to look for a plant.

Now that there is a search engine, I can easily support a separate category, or placing them in with shrubs, and changing the title. Whatever you decide......

Okay, we'll setup a new category for Vines and Climbers. Sound okay?

Sounds good, Dave!

Fair enough - I added the new category. It won't show up on the main plants page until it has an entry added to it (or moved to it).

Voila. It's there - I moved Bouganvillea over (and also used all the new fields you've added....I'll get my behind in gear here pretty soon and start editing a lot of these entries to "fill in the blanks". Got that day-stretcher device working yet? I need at least 30 hours/day to do everything I need/want to. Thanks, Dave!

Thanks Dave!
