Split a thread?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Could this thread be split into two parts? http://davesgarden.com/showthread/89631.html There are already 3 threads in the discussion of how we all chose our DG names, and this first one still has 127 replies. Thanks. :)

I'm sorry, but no, we can't split threads up like that.

Trish

This brings up something that I've considered in the past: Forcing limits on threads so a thread automatically shuts down and a "part 2" thread is automatically created when a certain threshhold (say, 50 replies) is reached...

Well, it's a thought anyway.

Oh, okay. Thanks, Trish. There'd been some discussion of this in the past, I remember; I didn't find the outcome of that thread.

Yes, yes, yes. That would be great. Thanks, Dave.

I've thought the same in the past also, dave. Even tho my puter and the site is running pretty fast now there are still times when I see the numbers of replies and choose not to click on it becuz there are so many. (Especially when I get behind and have to read 97 replies to catch up, follow the gist of the conversation and such b4 I can post.)
Fifty sounds like a good cut-off number, or good "continue" number.

Wonderful idea............will make loading much quicker!! Ingeneous!!

Maybe one day I'll implement this. Definitely no time soon, however.

How about we creat a 'tradition' to start a new thread, Part II, when one hits 100 posts???

John, I think that's a good idea. Ideally, when the person starting the thread sees the number of posts getting near the 50 mark, it would be great if he/she would start a second thread, and link to it.

And if the thread starter doesn't happen to see it, then I think anyone following the thread can step in and do the same thing. Even with a decent connection, long threads can be pretty slow to load.

great idea people.
