I am wondering if anyone of you grow earthworms.. cause I would like to grow them and use them as fishing bait. How to start them....I tried to look up into search and did not get any good information..

build a compost pile and they will come.

If you use lots of organic matter in your gardens and few if any chemicals the worms will find you. Look up vermincomposting on the internet.

Yes, look up vermicomposting ~ not "vermin" though it kind of is in a way. ;) It's pretty easy once you get started and a great way to get rid of your leftovers. A friend had a worm bed and loved it. The castings (poop) is wonderful fertilizer, too! I hope to have a big old bed of them one day.

Oops, I stand corrected. I'm glad you caught that Wingnut.

i started a compost pile this spring! i threw everything on top of it and covered all with dirt!! well, i was there yesterday and seems like some old corn cobs i threw out there are really growing!!!! so much better than the corn seeds i planted! i would say they are about 7ft. tall!! one question tho, why is the silk on this compost corn red?? anyone know?

HAH! What a way to grow corn, tootsie! Would love to see a pic of that!
By the way, the corn I grow always has red silks in the beginning, then turn yellow, then of course brown as they are drying.

You can also grow red worms in a plastic box. You can use a soldering iron to put holes in it for ventilation. They eat strips of newspapers, kitchen waste such as vegtable cuttings, coffee grounds. Do not put in meat, or grease.
I have a compost pile. The worms did come. Only problem is now Ive used up all my compost in one of my gardens. Time to start over. It was good stuff. First big batch Ive ever had.

Well, Tootsie, I am glad to hear your "corny" news. I have potatoes growing out of my compost pile.

Good idea.. I am going to buy me a plastic box.. so I can fill up with peat moss.. vegetable cuttings.. cut up newspaper and mix.. make holes on top cover of plastic.. so I can add the veg. cutting when I am ready to throw it away.. I can put it in there.. put plastic box under shade RIGHT?
