Great Surprise!!

I don't like crossing back to parents generally, but most would say go for it as thats how one selects for recessive traits a lot of times. One can also cross siblings as well for the same. Crossing back to grandparents or back to a sibling is my prefered choice. L'amour would be a most excellent choice though in my oppinion as well.

I'll try something at some point this summer. Still have lots of buds to bloom and I'm sure I'll get another, better and bigger flush of bloom before fall. Thanks Eric.

Brugnanny,
Many hybrids close up a bit when its too hot outside and they aren't getting enough water. Sure, I do believe some hybrids are more heat resistant than others though. I think we can get very strong early blooming hybrids that can also compete in color and form. Its just going to take a bit more dedication. Selecting those that bloom within the first year to breed with may one day be a thing of the past. We may eventually be culling those that don't bloom within the first 6 months if we continue breeding for vigor and earliness of bloom. I do however think that we should not lose sight of trying to create something beautiful as well...ie colors in carrot reds and dark pinks that border on red. All of my hybrids that I have personally released were very early bloomers and in color.

yes! yes! yes! yes!

Kell,
If anyone can create something beautiful I am sure you can. Love your giant Trunk.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL brugman............ I collected my first pollen today so you never know!!!

FSH, TX

Okay Kell, tell us what special hybrid your working on..enquiring minds want to know.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have not made that leap yet..........LOL..........but give me a little more time on Dave's and I am sure I will!!! I collected it for friends who are much more enterprising than I am......and successful also..........
I am hoping it will make a red brug but they are going for a heat loving sang.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Brugmansia.......I forgot, while I was collecting the pollen I went so far as to boldly take an anther from one flower and wipe it on the stigma of another. It is my understanding that my sang can self pollinate. GOD CAN ONLY HELP ME NOW! (HEY, Brugie are you impressed?)

OMG...We have created a monster here...she'll never be the same.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am glad you admit it Glory, I will have this as proof when my
DH goes crazy over brugs brugs everywhere,
with Glory causing such despair!

FSH, TX

I have heard of sanguinea's being able to self pollinate, but as a general rule I think B.arborea is the only one that does so reliably. Has your sanguinea ever set seed before? You could cross your sanguinea to flava, arborea, another sanguinea or perhaps a vulcanicola. I personally would love to see it crossed to Roter Vulkan.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Get me a Roter Vulkan and I will cross it for you!
I have never noticed seed pods until recently (but I never looked for them either though you would think I would have noticed them even though I was not Dave mesmerized then LOL) but I had unfortunately cut it off when I noticed it. If it was not self pollinated it would have had to be pollinated by a generic pink, white or double white brug.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, you are doin' good. Now you just have to wait and see if you get a pod.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And guess what, I think I may have a Roter Vulkan. So Brugmanisa may get his wish! Liz just sent me a picture and I have one with the same distinctive leaf........... I will have to some investigating to see if it is..........
I will be a mini Liz(in mind only, not in body I hope for Lizes sake LOL), crossing sangs..........

FSH, TX

Can't wait to see those crosses Kell. I have been dreaming of that cross for a while.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ms brugie, have you taken any more pics of this?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Shirley, this is another beautiful one!! I am so impressed. I love to see all the new ones everyone is coming up with. :)

(Zone 6a)

Send me a couple of those Shirley:)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

That is gorgeous, did I miss it before?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

CC, I'm with you, I missed this one!! but then that was when I was up in NY. Boy turn your back 1 minute and miss something. Beautiful Brugie, anymore pictures??

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Hope you didn't let them dig this one up and cart it away!!

It truly is a "Keeper".

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Wish I had more pictures, and maybe can take some when the wind isn't blowing. All my pictures, or nearly all, were in the old computer and have not been saved. I've decided on a name for this one. It is now called Strawberry Creme. It starts a strawberry/watermelon color on the bottom and cream color as it goes to the tube. Not a fancy name, but it will have to work as I'm not a creative person.

Just ran out and took a picture. These are much lighter in the very cool weather we are having.

love the name!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

gotta say reminds me of strawberry alarm clock. remember them kell? incense, dadada and peppermint candy... saw them with the beach boys in 1960 something.

look at all those buds!!!! thanks ms brugie!!!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

and look at all those seed pods!!!!!! yummy yummy yummy i got love in my tummy........
momentary insanity, can't take the place of ms kell though.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You're doing good Arlene. Some of those pods will be dumped, but some are marked with the crosses and I'll give them a try. I've got this one air layered, so it will be cut off the mother plant soon. The trunk on this one is huge and to think it was a seedling...........

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

have the pods slowed down the blooming?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I like that name, and it's so fitting.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

No Arlene, it has just bloomed like crazy. However, we have had two days of winds, and it is cold enough that I have the furnace running, so it actually is much prettier in the warmer temps. Right now, I have two tall brugs laying on the ground unless more have gone over. Just can't keep them upright, so I'm just letting them stay where they are until things calm down.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Like the name! Sure hope it quiets down, and warms up some!
We either have it too hot and dry, lot of bugs, or bugs gone, so now cold and windy.... Have to take the good with the bad, I guess.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Good sense, innocence, cripplin' mankind
Dead kings, many things I can't define
Occasions, persuasions clutter your mind
Incense and peppermints, the color of time

Who cares what games we choose
Little to win, but nothing to lose

Incense and peppermints, meaningless nouns
Turn on, tune in, turn your eyes around

I love your name Brugie................so orignial!! Pink is worn out.............
